What a heartbreaker for South Korean fans vs. Ghana

I haven't been watching very many of the games in the World Cup but because of having nothing else to do there is a friend of mine that has successfully convinced me to join him in watching a game here and there. It isn't easy to pull this off because of the time difference but we manage.

We recently watched the game between South Korean and Ghana and I have two things to say about that: What an exciting game, especially for football / soccer, and how saddening it was to see all the depressed Korean fans and players after they failed to achieve victory.

The first half was a relatively one-sided affair with Korea unable to generate any sort of meaningful offense and Ghana scoring on both of their attempts on goal that could be considered "on-target." They were both cracking goals that I don't think could have been stopped by anyone.

Going into the locker rooms at half-time, it must have been a bit demoralizing for the Koreans because the Ghana players no longer needed to play an offense-oriented game to secure a victory.

Well something crazy happened early in the 2nd half and if you stepped outside for a cigarette or decided to change pubs you would have missed most of it.

It seemed impossible but South Korea managed not just to score one goal, but two absolutely stunning goals in the opening minutes of the 2nd half. I've never seen anything like it and the crowd in attendance as well as the crowd where I was at the time, was going absolutely nuts witnessing such an amazing comeback.

Ghana would later score again, and this would put a temporary stop the South Korean momentum

Even though no more goals were scored from this point forward I have to say that the rest of full-time as well as the shocking 10 minutes of extra time were almost completely dominated by the Korean side. They spent almost all of the time on the Ghana end of the field and it was every couple of minutes that Korea has another chance on goal. Some of them were really close too and the goalie was definitely getting a workout especially during two amazing saves that kept Ghana in the lead.

It was tragic seeing how the looks of glee and excitement turned to dread, sadness and even tears as the clock ran out. There were a lot of Korean fans there and it seems as though so many of them are emotionally attached to their country's victory. I feel for them but am also glad that I don't put so much emotional importance on the victory of any team that I would let a loss bring me to tears.

It also made me think that this isn't the last we are going to see of the tears and sadness. All but one of the teams' fans are going home empty handed in this, and every World Cup that exists.

I think the Koreans should try to put some silver lining on this cloud though: That was one of the most exciting and exhilarating soccer / football games I have ever seen. I don't normally even enjoy watching this sport but watching that, was an absolute joy.

Some matches in the World Cup are not as exciting as I would like.

oh for sure. i think around 25% of the games have been 0-0 draws up to this point and well, that isn't very exciting to me either.

A well-deserved victory from the black stars, and a sad day for the sunny boy. Looking forward to the black stars' revenge match against Uruguay in the last group-stage match.

I have personal reasons for feeling this way and am not trying to hurt anyone's feelings but I support any team that is playing against Uruguay

There will always be winner sand losers and in some cases it is a game of millimeters. I think just sitting back and enjoying the fight back tells it's own story as they were always going to struggle to score 3 goals.
