🗣️ Welcome to Sportsbites — Your Real-Time Sports Voice on the Blockchain

What Are Sportsbites?
Sportsbites are SportsBlock's short-form content feature — quick, punchy takes of up to 280 characters that let you share your thoughts on the action as it happens. Think of them as the sports fan's answer to tweets, except every single one is stored permanently on the Hive blockchain and is eligible to earn you crypto rewards.
Whether it's a last-minute winner, a controversial red card, a knockout finish, or a bold prediction before the game even starts — Sportsbites are built for those moments when you just need to say something right now.
How Do Sportsbites Work on Hive?
If you're familiar with how the Hive blockchain works, here's what's happening under the hood — and why it matters.
Sportsbites use a container system. This account, @sportsbites, creates parent container posts that act as the home for your individual Sportsbites. When you post a Sportsbite on sportsblock.app, your take is published as a reply to one of these containers. That reply is a full Hive blockchain transaction — it's on-chain, it's yours, and it's permanent.
The important thing to understand is that the container posts themselves decline all payouts. We made this decision deliberately. Some short-form platforms on Hive allow their container posts to earn rewards, which means the platform extracts value from the reward pool without producing actual content. We think that's wrong. On SportsBlock, only your replies — your actual Sportsbites — are eligible to earn HIVE, HBD, and MEDALS rewards. The containers exist purely as organisational infrastructure, nothing more.
What Are Match Threads?
Match Threads are a special type of Sportsbites container that are automatically generated for major live sporting events. When a big fixture is on — a Premier League match, a UFC card, a Six Nations clash, an NBA game — a dedicated Match Thread appears on SportsBlock where fans can post Sportsbites specifically about that event.
It works just like a Reddit game thread, except every comment you make is a blockchain transaction that can earn rewards. The match thread container itself, just like all Sportsbite containers, declines payouts. Only your contributions earn.
Match Threads create focused conversations around live events. Instead of your hot take getting lost in a general feed, it sits alongside every other fan reacting to the same moment. It's communal, it's fast, and it's rewarding.
How Do I Post a Sportsbite?
Head to sportsblock.app and you'll find the Sportsbites section front and centre. You can post from:
The main Sportsbites feed — for general sports takes, opinions, and reactions at any time
A Match Thread — for live commentary and reactions during a specific event
You can attach images to your Sportsbites, and inline replies let you have conversations directly within the feed. There's a word count in the compose editor so you always know how much space you have left.
If you have a Hive account, connect your wallet via Keychain, HiveSigner, or any of our supported login methods and your Sportsbites go straight to the blockchain. If you're new to crypto, you can sign up with just an email through our soft account system and start posting immediately — no blockchain knowledge required.
How Do Sportsbites Earn Rewards?
Every Sportsbite you post is eligible for rewards in three ways:
Hive Upvotes — Other Hive users can upvote your Sportsbite just like any other Hive post, earning you HIVE and HBD.
MEDALS Curation — The SportsBlock curation team actively rewards quality Sportsbites with votes that earn you MEDALS tokens, our native Layer-2 token.
Weekly Content Rewards — Your Sportsbites count toward SportsBlock's weekly reward categories, including engagement metrics and community participation.
All Sportsbites carry the same 5% beneficiary to @sportsblock that full blog posts do. This funds the curation system, platform development, and community running costs — keeping the whole ecosystem sustainable.
Why Not Just Use X or Reddit?
Fair question. Here's the difference:
On X, your tweet makes money for X. On Reddit, your comment makes money for Reddit. You get likes, upvotes, maybe some internet points — but zero financial reward for your knowledge and effort.
On SportsBlock, your Sportsbite is stored on the Hive blockchain. You own it. No platform can delete it, hide it, or monetise it without you. And every single one has the potential to earn you cryptocurrency.
Same energy, same speed, same passion — but this time, the value flows back to you.
About This Account
The @sportsbites account exists solely to host the container infrastructure for Sportsbites and Match Threads on the Hive blockchain. It does not earn rewards. It does not post original content. It is organisational scaffolding that keeps the system running cleanly and transparently.
All the action happens in the replies — and that's exactly where it should be.

Is Medals is tribe token?
Good luck with that! Can I use any other front end to publish (in a reasonably user-friendly way, that is)?
