Blast from the past - WRC Rally Australia 1998

Hi, friends!

It was the last season of Colin McRae 's stint with Subaru World Rally Team and those two names made WRC a glorious sport. Before Colin McRae, the sport was strong in media and with fans, but when his name came out, it became popular globally.

Codemasters just published Colin McRae Rally for the PlasyStation and suddenly every kid in the world knew about him and the sport. That's how you make the sport popular.

The other important thing is that you must have more of the drivers able to win because domination of one name kills the sport. I mean, who normal want to see the one driver always wins the rallies. That just killse the sport.

In those days you had six or seven guys always able to win any rally, on each surface. That's something the fans want to see. Diversuty in sport is normal and everyone has its own favorite for the win.

I remember that WRC Rally Australia 1998 because my driver Colin McRae was posting a glorious special stage times when he went from 6th to the 1st place. After that he his car let him down and he lost any chance for the overall championship fight.

But Tommi Makinen was there ti win another rally with his Mitsubishi Lancer Group A and that win helped him to secure later the title after a thrilling fight at Rally GB.

Colin 's younger brother Alistair McRae won the F2 class in his Volkswagen Golf kit car in front of Gwyndaf Evans (father of current Toyora star Elfyn) in the works Seat Ibiza kit car.

Those were the days but these today aren' t worse any...
