Evans leads WRC Rally Finland 2021 after two days of competition

Toyota guys showed today their strenght with number of special stage wins, esoecially from Elfy Evans, who materialized his strong pace into the rally lead.

He knows that he needs three wins from the three remaining WRC rallies if he wants WRC crown this year. Yeah, Seb Ogier had 44 points lead and there is maximum of 90 points that can be won from three events (25 for the win and 5 for the Power Stage win x 3 rallies = 90 points).

Evans also needs Ogier'mistake and taht guy farely make mistakes. That's why he is 7x WRC champion.

Other potential Rally Finland winner Kalle Rovanpera retired from the rally after he lost the control over his Toyota Yaris WRC. He hit some dirt and damaged the front of his car. He will probably rejoin under Super Rally rules (with big time penalty) because I didn't see some big damage on the rally car.

Another big name retired today because of the water leak and it is Hyundai's Thierry Neuville who was holding 5th place before retirement. That's music over over his championship amitions for this season.

Takamoto Katsuta crashed his Toyota Yaris WRC and proved that it is not easy to bring new co-driver into the car and post super fast times from the box.

Ott Tanak was constant for the whole day and he is with his Hyundai i20 WRC in 2nd place less then 10s from the lead. I expect tomorrow big fight for the win.

Overnight leader Craig Breen finished the day in 3rd position in front of Toyota returnee Essapekka Lappi who showed strong pace today. That's what he needs if he wants to be back on the top class of the sport.

In WRC7 class it is Teemu Suninen who leads in his VW Polo R5 in front of Citroën works driver Mads Ostberg.

Tomorrow is the last day of gravel for this generation of WRC cars in the World Rally Championship so let's enjoy as much as possible. Next season bringy hybrid rally1 cars and the rest of 2021 season is reserved for tarmac rallies.
