FIA revealed ERC Azores Rallye 2021 entry list
Hi, friends!
After last year's cancellation because of the coronavirus pandemic, organizers from Portugal decided to finally go with the event because they already postponed the rally after it had to be held in the Spring of this year.
I would say that this rally is one of the most beautiful of the European Rally Championship calendar. Gravel roads around volcano are so unique that you will hardly find something similar in the world.
But there are so many beautiful events all around the world which won't be a part of any bigger championship. So we must enjoy all the nice places we see while following rallies.
What about entry list?
Andreas Mikkelsen drives WRC Acropolis Rally Greece this weekend and he is with Pirelli rubber on his Škoda Fabia Rally2. Only four days after the Greek event will be finished (tomorrow), he will start Azores Rallye.
In a meantime he will have to come in Portugal and make a recce for the rally. So he won't have much of a time to relax. But he a professional and he knwe what to expect from this season with 15 events calendar.
There is a new name on the entry list which I didn't see in ERC from Barum Rally a few years ago. I am talking about Dani Sordo who akso drives for Hyundai this weekend. So all I said for Mikkelsen case is meant for Sordo also.
Barum Rally star and leader for almost whole rally Erik Cais will be at Azores with M-Sport Ford's prepared Ford Fiesta Rally2. This will be a chance for him to show the whole world that the Barum Rally case wasn't one off and that he can be a potential winner on any event.
Alexey Lukyanuk will be back with the Sainteloc Racing prepared Citroen C3 Rally2 car after he destroyed another car at the test ahead of Barum Rally and that way he couldn't contest it and also he lost the lead on the championship table.
The rest of the entry list are guys who are here for longer time but they never take wins, only occasional podiums. That's OK by me, they have their satisfaction.
