Hyundai WRC team not to renew contract with Oliver Solberg

Hi, friends!

I really don't want to be rude but to be in a works rally team, you must be consistent and quick at the same time with minimal number of crashes per year.

When looking at results from season 2019, I don't see why Hyundai works team even signed Solberg jr. I guess they thought that son of 2003 WRC champion will deliver just like his father.

Yeah, maybe he would even deliver if he had five or six seasons for development as a driver. But in modern rallying, it is now or you can walk away. The pressure is big and you have to be cood right out from the box.

So Hyundai revealed today that Oliver Solberg is a free driver at the end of 2022. He will go with the team to Japan to make a recce and then they will part their ways.

This means that his 5th place at WRC Rally New Zealand was their last rally together. He will now have to find a new job, otherwise rally cross should be his next destination.
