Of note, several players had started the season already with 1 bonus point, dependent if they had played in the last fun tournament!
Players can switch between the tournament tiers in case their rating changes!

No big changes this time. In tournament 3 @dhilan04 could grab back rank no.1 from @rosmarly. In the other ones the leaders were able to extend their lead.

See you all next week - and keep practicing!

Today the legendary TATA steel chess tournament will start in the Netherlands!

These are the 14 players of the round robin event including reigning world champion Ding Liren with his first appearence since last May. Magnus Carlsen is for the second time in 20 years not participating. Also the US top players (Caruana, Nakamura, So) are missing. But still it will be a very strong tournament!

It is going to be a very interesting Tata Steel. As an Indian we have a veritable buffet of choice this year with Pragg, Gukesh, and Vidit in there. The hope is that all three of them will put in a good showing seeing how they will have the Candidates coming up later. In the Challengers too, in addition to the evergreen Harika we do have two more youngsters in Divya and Leon who should get very good experience there. However for some funny reason my heart is with Anish, especially seeing as he lost out getting into the Candidates. It would be great if he could win two Wijk aan Zee in a row. And even though we do have Nepo and Ding, with the Americans and Magnus not in there is a good chance that Anish could win again. Maybe the last chance in some ways considering how the young cohort of champions including Abdusattarov and Firouzja is aggressively moving up the ranks.

Thank you for the warm welcome @stayoutoftherz. It was a fun tournament even though it was late night here. I sucked as I assumed I would, but funny thing with chess is that you still feel bad :D. And one gets tilted even though one (as in me) don't have the necessary talent to deserve to tilt. I ended up trying to scrape something using beserk but all of you are just too good. I will have to keep on trying every week I guess :) Happy to start this year with a fun community like this one. Have a good year y'all!

The Level is becoming more and more demanding and this Swiss system is a bit of a mess in terms of the tie-ups. But no way. We must raise the level and there is only one way: play, play, play (without forgetting to study) and play Chess.

The standard of play is very high and I was wondering if you could share some tips how you got started playing and how you improved your game.

Hard to tell, I had started played decades ago. I recommend doing puzzle rushs (link), to see tactical motives faster.
And also analyze your games, see where you made a mistake and how, and from each game try to avoid one mistake next time.
