while the Friday Hivechess season is still in a break, I can share that I recently joined an over-the-board rapid tournament organized by my chess club, the first one after "Covid".
The location was quite interesting (it was the first time I was there), directly next to and dwarfed by the biggest soccer stadium of Austria, the "Ernst Happel Stadium", named after a famous soccer trainer in Austria, in the "Prater", in Vienna.

Of note, the balls of concrete to prevent parking in that area are of course resembling soccer balls.
The address is actually "Rudolf-Spielmann-place", after the Austrian early 20th century chess player Rudolf Spielmann. When you enter the building, you can read his curriculum.Die Adresse ist Rudolf-Spielmann-Platz 1, nach dem österreichischen Schachspieler Rudolf Spielmann (1883-1942). Vor dem Eingang ist eine Gedenktafel angebracht.

The building (or rather barrack) belongs to the Vienna Chess Federation and everything in it is dedicated to chess, from the pictures in the stairway...Die Baracke gehört dem Wiener Schachverband und alles darin ist dem Schach gewidmet, vom Stiegenaufgang mit Bildern berühmter Schachspieler...

...to the rooms which practically all were full of chess tables, but quite generously spaced (maybe due to Covid-restrictions)....bis zu den Räumen, die sämtlich voller Schachbretter waren, mit reichlich Platzangebot (eventuell wg. "Covid" noch).

In the actual tournament room fortunately all was normal (without masks or any entry tests - otherwise I would not have played). This is how it looked like while the tournament was ongoing.Beim eigentlichen Turnier war alles normal (ohne Maskenplicht, 3G, etc. - sonst hätte ich nicht mitgemacht). So sah es während des Turniers aus.

Apparently I was alone there, so I could not really play and at the same time focus on taking good pictures. However once I had asked my opponent for permission to take a picture from the position, after I had retreated my bishop to b1.Da ich alleine war, konnte ich mich nicht gleichzeitig aufs Spielen und auf das Anfertigen guter Fotos konzentrieren.

Here it is, transferred to lichess, Stockfish says it is super advantageous for White and indeed I later had won it relatively comfortably.

At the end there was even an "award ceremony". It was rather a fun event, and everybody was winning something. Here is the table where the players could pick any price (in the order of their ranking)Am Schluß gab es sogar eine Siegerehrung.

And how did I play? Don´t ask, it was terrible. I made 4 out of 7 and ended up as 15th (from rating I was ranked as 12th at the start), out of 32 players. It showed that the rating numbers on Lichess are completely unrelated to the official ELO ratings (where I am about 1800 only). The many online Blitz games didn´t improve my rating, apparently. I played against one guy who had a FIDE rating of 2100 and I was completely outplayed and destroyed.
But overall it was nevertheless a very interesting experience to again meet and chat with people between the games.

AH MAN! That is something I would have enjoyed. I know it felt great playing over the board in a big chess atmosphere.

Hope things are getting back to normal for you. Things are getting better here in the States but I am just mostly playing chess online until my wife send me out to fix something for her friends :).

Dear @stayoutoftherz, we need your help!

The Hivebuzz proposal already got an important support from the community. However, it lost its funding few days ago and only needs a few more HP to get funded again.

May we ask you to support it so our team can continue its work this year?
You can do it on Peakd, ecency, Hive.blog or using HiveSigner.
https://peakd.com/me/proposals/199

Your support would be really helpful and you could make the difference! Thank you!

Oh such a smooth chess environment it's always nice to interact with people over the board for sure. You could take the pictures with your phone that's fine although I don't know if that's is posible here. FIDE says that any electronic device is not allowed in the room but I remember a few years I was able to shoot with a camera it always depends of the organization and your oponente I guess and you have to be very careful cuz if you got a notification from your phone and your opponent wants you can lose the game. !PIZZA
