Morning Run: Negatively splitting

steevc just finished a 7.04km run, that lasted for 42 minutes.
This run helped steevc burn 501.0 calories.

Description from Strava:
Somehow I enabled an early alarm on my phone and so was awoken at 5:30. I had another 90 minutes until I wanted to be up, so managed to get back to sleep. That does not help when you want to get up and run. It was a little misty out there, but not too cold.

I went with my usual route, so it was the long slog up the hill to Fairfield again. It can look a little spooky up there with the slightly gothic buildings of the old asylum.

The run felt a little better than the last one and on the way back down I was able to find some pace. That resulted in another negative split run where the second half was quicker than the first. This was my first run in a while on this route where I averaged under 6min/km. I go quicker in a race, but on these outings I tend to take it more steadily. I think I can benefit from some quicker outings.

I was listening to the Somewhere On Earth Podcast that carries on what Digital Planet did on the BBC. I will be meeting with the presenters and some listeners later this month to mark a year since Digital Planet ended. I have paid for premium access to the new show, but Pocket Casts seems to lose track of that sometimes. I should be able to access extended episodes and it did work today. I also listened to Late Night Linux. I enjoy the open source technology chat, but the main host is very sceptical of cryptocurrency.

It has brightened up a little since then, so the solar panels are working well, but my son is back from a long weekend and wanted to charge up the car, so we will be drawing some power from the grid. It has been several days since we needed anything significant from there as the battery kept us going. We are still waiting for the feed-in tariff to kick in and pay us for excess power.

Run free!

I play soccer most times so I try my best to run every morning. I’ve improved, I cover more ground now.
Glad you feel better now too.

I hope you enjoy that. You need to be fit for soccer, but I just do it to stay healthy. I do like being out there too.

How do you go to work after jogging?
Don’t you feel tired?

(Edited)

I recover fairly quickly. After a run I have breakfast and a shower. By then I feel fine. I am working from home, so no need to walk anywhere.

I should hope so after about 10 years of running every week.

It’s all boils down to your commitment
You Wolfe up one day and decided to take that step.

That building looks like the church down near where my sister in law lives. I'm sure a lot of places like that share similar architecture. I ran for a total of 5 minutes this morning. Then I walked the other 20 minutes. I don't feel like I am ever going to be able to run a full mile.

The old chapel is now apartments after laying empty for years. They built hundreds of houses up there as well as converting the old hospital. It's a nice area to run around as I can mostly avoid roads.

You will surprise yourself if you keep up the running. Alternate short runs with walking recovery. The runs will gradually get longer. Just find an easy pace you can keep up.

Wow, that is pretty cool and a great way to reuse the space. I usually walk for five minutes which puts me almost to a quarter of a mile, then I run for two minutes or so and then walk for another five or so. I try to do that a couple of times. I also adjust my incline a bit. I made it three minutes straight this morning on my first run. That second two minute run my legs felt like jelly.

There are various training plans for this such as Couch to 5k. Following one of those may help. When I first started running I was exhausted after a half mile. Now that is barely a warm-up. It takes time to build the endurance.

I think that is part of my problem too. After that first two minute run, my breath is basically gone. I need to learn the proper way to breathe while I am running. I've seen the couch to 5k and our treadmill has preprogrammed stuff in it, but I haven't checked any of those out yet.

Take longer breaks if you need it so you are ready to run again.

:) I've usually only got about 20 minutes to work with in the mornings, so I have to try and fit it all into that.

What makes this run better than the previous one?
The atmosphere or what?

Nothing obvious, but I must have felt better. There are many variables.

That's a good exercise. When I do some walking around in the night praying, I know that is good exercise

In this kind of weather, when the cold air is blowing, one wants to do more running.
