Description from Strava:
Happy new year everyone! I did not stay up late and just had a large Scotch to mark the event. I wanted to be up this morning for another parkrun. I think this is my first time of two on successive days.

I have not used the bike much lately, so I checked the tyres last night. I left a little later than planned. The way there is mostly uphill and my cycling muscles are out of shape. I took it fairly gently to conserve some energy. I just about got up the big hill without stopping and was there five minutes before the scheduled start. I think we set off a little late after the briefing.

It was pretty muddy at the start, which was a foretaste of what was to come. 'Carnage corner' lived up to its name. Even with trail shoes I was sliding around all the way up the hill. Some people seemed to cope better and overtook me. I did walk through some of the deeper mud at the top. It is exactly a year since I last did this course and it was much the same then. At least it was not raining. The weather was actually pretty good.

At least it improves when you get back on the path, but there are some puddles that I splashed through. It is flat along there and across the playing fields to the finish, but we had another lap to complete. That went much the same as the first one, but I avoided falling over. I did not see anyone else fall, but it would not surprise me if they did.

I gave it what I could at the end. You can see the finish from a long way out, so you have to resist going for it too early. I did not catch up with anyone anyway.

A time of 29 minutes is not great for me, but given the conditions I am happy with it. I came 29th out of 79 with nobody older than me doing better. Mind you a guy over 60 was just behind me.

The ride home was easier as I could coast for a lot of it. I was pretty tired when I got back, but needed to get straight in the shower to wash off the mud. My shoes will need a good clean.

I hope 2023 is a good running year for you all.

I've seen you've taken up the the 2023 in 2023 challenge, and with 2 park runs in a row, and 2 trips on the bike as well... you'll achieve it in no time 😉

'tis a reminder that I should really dig my bike out again, it's currently rusting away in the shed, might as well put it to some use before it falls apart completely!

We shall see how it goes. I will try to run more this year. I just may not log every time I walk somewhere.
