Description from Strava:
The weather has been mixed this week, so I expected some level of mud on the Henlow Bridge Lakes course today. I jogged there past what has become a regular feature of the road through Arlesey being closed due to work for the new housing. It is nice to have less traffic and I do not need to drive anywhere.
It was about as muddy as I expected, but the big puddle from last week had gone. I greeted the volunteers as I headed to the start, checking the conditions along the way. I need to work out where to run to reduce the risk of slipping.
It always looks as if there are not many there, but a lot turn up at the last minute. I chatted to a few people before we set off. It was busy at the start and I just had to let people settle into their pace to get a clear path. A few overtook me on the first lap, but I managed to pass a couple.
The mud was not too bad, but care was needed in places. I passed the tail walkers before completing a lap, which is earlier than usual. I was mostly on my own with a couple of guys visible ahead of me, but one came past as I passed the start for the last time and he got a good lead, so I do not know where he had been. Some people may find more speed as they go on. I can take a while to get going.
I kept pushing on the last lap, but could not catch anyone. I ended up a little slower than I would like, but then the mud is a factor in that. I still almost came in the top quarter of finishers. I usually have a look at the results and spotted a work colleague and his son. I did not see them at the start, but perhaps they got there late.
I jogged most of the way home as it started to rain. I was definitely feeling that I had worked hard. I was thinking that many people rarely get to that state if they do not exercise. You need to make your body work now and again.
I hope all the Hive parkrunners had a good one. There are a few out there. I am happy to help others sign up so they can earn from their activities.
