Damp recovery run

avatar

After Sunday's long run I was not going to be off sprinting today. I just wanted to do a gentle run to keep me ticking over. It has been raining overnight. It was really nice here up to Saturday, but now we are getting the grey skies @toofasteddie has been seeing over Barcelona.

Selfie

I did my usual run up to Fairfield. This was formerly the Three Counties Asylum and the Fairfield Hospital, but is now housing. They build a load of houses up there years ago, but it is only now they are converting the old chapel into apartments. Yes, I do look a bit deranged there, but that is just how the shot came out.

It was just a matter of keeping going today without worrying about speed. There were some other runners out and one guy who seemed to be mostly walking, but was dressed for running. We each do what we can to keep fit.

Route

It did not really rain on me, but the air was wet, and so was I by the end. Some of that was sweat despite the chill. I have covered a half marathon distance in my last two runs and my legs are not too bad. That bodes well for the race in May.

Run free and stay well.

Hahahha, well, don't worry, the weather forecast here also predicts bad weather for the coming days at Barcelona so, maybe it's the opposite there tomorrow

No shade here, I hope! I still wear my running clothes for walking and cycling despite not being able to run any more. Waste not, want not 😇

I am honestly not doing this on purpose. I meant to comment as me!

Do you use the user switcher in peakd? That's handy if you have multiple accounts. Just need to ensure your avatars do not look too similar.

He was an older guy in shorts and I admire anyone who can get out there to exercise. Some people walk parkrun and that's fine.

That's pretty cool but I don't know if I'd want to live in a place made from a converted asylum. Well done on the running and good luck for May! You got this.

The place will have some interesting, and disturbing history, but the buildings are magnificent. Apartments go for a good price there.

I'm just trying to keep going with the running. Having a race now and then gives me a nudge.

The history would be interesting, but, I'd rather appreciate the look and history from a far hahaha

Great stuff man, how was it say when you first started running compared to now? As you said you done a half a marathons worth of running in the last few days with no leg pain. But, at the start were there times when you wanted to give it up?

Also, cheers for the beer!

There were some articles about the place in a local magazine. I can remember when there were still patients there. Had a confused old man wander into our garden one day.

I started running about ten years ago. Back then a run around the block would leave me panting for a while. I've probably done about 10,000km since then and built some stamina. It all takes time. Now it's a habit and I know what I can do.

Ahh the poor divil, I'd say that must of been a strange situation for yourself and him.

That's amazing man 10,000km in 10 years is something else, that's around a quarter of the earth. Pretty imressive. As the saying goes it's not a race, it's a marathon haha bit of a... running joke there.

Great stuff though, well done!

Personally, I love running or hiking in that kind of weather, cold and wet, but go early in the morning. I imagine that with the cold and fresh breezes it's easier to pick up the pace, although when it starts to rain it's annoying!

I don't want it too warm anyway. I don't like it really wet, but this was okay really.

Are you spotting locations for @slobberchops?

Well it's a long way for him to come. There was one old house I passed on Sunday that was empty for ages, but is being done up now. I don't have his nerves for exploring. Maybe some day I'll find something I can get into for some photos.

The "dressed for running but walking line but walking" line got me laughing. He could just be catching his breath though. I usually don't like to run, I'll just walk and I think that works for me.

I saw him a couple of times. Not putting him down as he's out there doing his best.
