parkrun 53: Post-mud

avatar

The local parkrun team did their own April Fool this week when they announced that due to discovery of rare birds on the course we would be doing many laps of the circular road on the campsite. Happily that was not the case in reality.

It was a cold and frosty morning, but it warmed up as the sun reached everywhere. I had to take my other half out as I needed the car, so it was an early start. As I jogged up to the start some areas of grass were still white in the shadow of fence posts. I had opted for an extra layer and gloves.

Route

It was a fairly small field again (66 runners) and I started off trying to keep up with some of the leaders. That may have been a mistake as that was a bit quick for me. You can see I slowed down. At least the mud patches have dried up, but that did mean some uneven areas. It may smooth out over time.

I was overtaken a bit on the first lap, but took back a place later on. It always feels hard, but I just need to keep my legs moving with a bit of a push at the end.

I was just under 26 minutes in 19th place and am happy with that. I have been quicker there and I hope to find that speed again. I am getting an age rating of almost 60%. I will see if I can maintain that in coming years. There were a couple of older guys who finished ahead of me today, but they may be life-long runners.

As usual I walked part of the way home to get my breath back and jogged the rest. The day has turned out nice, but it is still cold if you are not in the sun.

Run free and stay well.

That's a nice April Fool - never go off with the leaders, what on earth got into you?!?

I don't know. I get carried away. I need to stick to my own pace.

These old guys showing off, what are they like!

Is like that here, disarmingly warm in the sun but in the shade it is practically zero!

It is pretty varied. A young lad finished just ahead of me. Just been in the garden and it's quite nice, but still needed a coat. Big difference to a week ago.

I am wearing my winter jacket in the sun right now. It is nice but I can't wait to get indoors for a coffee

I just sat on the deck with my coffee and no coat. Was nice as long as the sun was on me, but it's clouded over now. Not quite time to get the swimming pool out.
