Sunday Run - All the way to Ickleford

I just finished a 14.719km running that lasted about 1hh:28mm:8ss !

Another lovely morning. I never get out as early as I want to. Our cat has been waking us up early and so I lose a bit of sleep. When I did get up she wanted to go out, but she has to be watched and so I waited a bit longer for that. When I did get out I headed south along the Hicca Way. Some day I want to follow it to the end, but today was a loop that took in the village of Ickleford. That means crossing several fields. The farmers leave a track through the crops, but the ground is very uneven, so you have to watch your step. There were more people out there than I expected.

At Ickleford I passed the stables and then it was under the railway bridge. Need to be careful there as there is no pavement/sidewalk and cars cannot see you as they come around the corner. Then it is past Hitchin Lavender, which is closed now. In recent years it has attracted loads of Chinese tourists.

There is a brief stretch by the road before taking another track. I slowed a bit to climb that hill and stopped to take a photo looking back towards #Arlesey. I was passed by a mountain biker along that track and there were some dog walkers. It ends by The Wilbury pub which featured in The World's End movie. I followed the road down to Standalone Farm and joined the Greenway there to stay away from the roads. That has a few little hills, but my legs were not too bad. I was not going for speed today anyway. One runner remarked that he was not looking forward to the hill up to The Grange as he overtook me, but I was heading the other way towards Fairfield and that is mostly downhill.

I just kept on going back to Arlesey, but I was really feeling tired by then. My leg was hurting a bit where I banged it on the bike the other week. Generally it has not been troubling me.

Wildlife spotted today included a white egret and a curious squirrel. My podcasts are getting logged on last.fm. Quite a bit of science today and that was largely about the pandemic. Some comedy too for light relief.

Have a great Sunday. Run free and stay well.

You have uploaded 142 running activities, and 10 of them have been of similar distances (within 10 percent)!
Here are your 5-fastest running activities of a similar distance:

Over these 10 similar activities, you have travelled approximately 146.68 kms at an average pace of roughly 5:50 min/km!
Your latest run was at a pace of approximately 5.988min/km!
Looks like you went a bit slower this time! Remember that it's important to take some rest days, and do some rehab / prehab / strength and conditioning training too! If you weren't intending to go slower, take a moment to listen to your body, and see if you need something. Check in with yourself!

A good ol' distance there Steve; I hope you managed to avoid getting too toasted. I popped out to the farm shop yesterday for a veggie box and there were lots of runners out and about and it looked as if many of them hadn't put some cream on. I imagine a few of them as very uncomfortable today.

I'm slowly trying to build my miles up walking again and will hopefully get to plodding again before long. I find it difficult in the mornings as Lola needs her walk and really doesn't like jogging with me.

I think I avoided the worst of the sun at that time. I didn't cream up anyway. It seems some dogs do like running and others not. I have run with sister's Labrador and she seemed to enjoy it. I take it the girls are not ready to take the dog out yet.

She’s still too strong for the girls to take out, plus they’re still too young.

I had assumed that :) Give it a few years.

I started my workout routine thanks to you. I did some push ups and core work out.

How is the leg pain? Did you take any thing for it?

I'm happy to have inspired people. The leg is okay and I don't feel the need to take anything. They take a pounding over that distance, so any issues are likely to show up. Feels fine now.

Hello, it seems that you live in a field? Your training in that topography that you describe and on land must be demanding. I am still on asphalt, so far I have felt no discomfort, thank God.
Greetings, happy Sunday.

We are surrounded by fields. We are lucky to have countryside so close. Lots of trails to explore and it makes for challenging running.

but she has to be watched and so I waited a bit longer for that.

Why do you have to watch your cat go out... and only for a little while?

She doesn't like to be shut out and I needed to shut the door before I headed out. She is unlikely to shit outside, so it's just exploring. She was really an indoor cat when we got her and she is old, so we don't like her to wander far. We don't have a catflap.

She is unlikely to shit outside

LOL, I wouldn't know about the whereabouts or shitting behavior of our 19 yr old cat. She lives mostly outside but then is well used to it.

Ours has got quite into going outside and ventures across the lawn. The other night she was on the deck when a fox cub came through the fence. Gave them both a shock. Lots of other cats wander through our garden and we don't want her to get into a fight.

That looks like some beautiful scenery to take in while you are running! I love the view. I can just imagine the field dancing in the breeze. We got out for a good 2.5 mile walk today. It was a faster pace than the previous days because we weren't dog sitting anymore.

It's a nice route even though it's mostly farmland. That was over 20 miles for the week. I could not imagine doing that a few years ago.

How's your leg?

Feels okay, still healing. My weekly visit to the wound clinic is tomorrow. I will know more after that. Fingers crossed it is healing well!
