Sunday Run - Half a Mo

avatar

I just finished a 10.808km running that lasted about 1hh:0mm:17ss !

Last week Sir Mo Farah beat a world record by running 21.33km in an hour. At the same meeting Sifan Hassan broke the women’s world one-hour record by running 18.93km. Today I ran about half as far as Mo in the same time. He did have some advantages over me. He was on a flat track rather than a hilly course with roads to cross and he had the latest Nike shoes that seem to give an advantage. He is also just much quicker than me.

I was not setting out to break any records today. I only had less than two weeks off with my back issues, but it feels like longer. I do not seem to have lost too much speed or fitness.

It was a nice, bright morning and not too warm. Just how I like it really. Once my legs were warmed up I settled into a comfortable pace on my usual weekend loop. I saw a few others runners out there to wave to.

When I got to Stotfold I decided to extend the route a little when it occurred to me so try and make it at least an hour. I also took the longer way home through Arlesey. When I got back breakfast was cereal with lots of fruit, including home-grown raspberries.

It seems Strava has lots of challenges I can do based on the distances I run. I will enter them, but I rarely use the prizes as they tend to depend on buying expensive gear to get a discount. I do not buy much running stuff. I just get shoes as I need them.

Hope your weekends are going well. Run free and stay well.

He is amazing. I have seen him run at least once and I cannot believe how quick those top guys are.

Half as fast is still not too shabby, nice idea to go for an hour!

Shoes are the only things I really spend money on too, besides some nice winter tops.

I am happy enough with my running. I am satisfied that I am quicker than most guys my age. Lots of people cannot even run for an hour.

I have plenty of shirts and a good warmer top for when it is proper cold. I may look at getting a decent one for wet runs. Could be something for the Christmas list as family always want to know what I would like.

My wife and I did a nice walk the other day as well. It was actually a bit cold out. We had to wear our sweatshirts when we were walking. This morning it was a bit too hot and muggy. We will be exercising inside the rest of the week.

I plan to run again tomorrow. I may try some intervals this time.

There is talk of parkrun starting again next month, but we shall have to see how that can work.
