Morning Run: Round and round, up and down

I just finished a 6.945km running that lasted about 0hh:39mm:21ss !

Another cold morning with Strava saying it would feel like -4C. There were some icy puddles, but it was mostly dry. There were big piles of leaves that might be slippery, so I needed to be cautious.

I thought I would try the long segment that is a lap of the Fairfield estate. I consider it a mini-parkrun where I can push myself for a bit longer than usual. It is very up and down with a climb right at the start. I took it easy on the way there, but then it is uphill for half of that. I just had to go for it and see what happened.

I gave it what I had and it was not too bad. I was working hard, but not feeling like I was dying. I just wish I could find a little more speed. I really struggle to stay under 5 min/km for any distance. My legs just do not move quickly enough or maybe there is something else about my technique.

It was my third quickest lap, which is not too bad. For the route overall my average pace was quicker than my average. I have done that route plenty of times, but have not gone for a quick lap every time.

I plan to be at the local parkrun again on Saturday. I hope it has dried out a little from last time.

The last picture is actually from Tuesday evening, but it was a pretty sunset.

Run free and stay well.

That photo looks like the beginning of a day of promise. The pinks and hint of yellow with the deeper grey at the top is mesmerizing. Sunrise is a totally different kind of magic than sunsets.

A red sunrise might mean bad weather coming. I just want to get out there. I have seen some nice sunrises when running, but don't usually stop to take photos.

Nice sunset. I love it when the sky turns pink like that.

Another cold morning for a jog. 5min/km seems quite good. I don't know much about running. Is that like a running standard that people try to achieve? Like a threshold that makes it a competitive speed or something?

Fast runners can do 3 min/km or quicker, but I will be happy with 5. That could let me do a 5km in 25 min and that's a personal target I have been aiming at for a while. I think it's pretty good for someone of my age anyway. I'm not looking to win actual races really.

This article says a 25min 5km is considered good, but it really varies by age and other factors.

I see. Yeah that seems quite fast. Good luck in your training!

I really didn't want to get out of bed this morning, but I pulled myself out and did my Walk/Run/Lift workout. It is only 20 minutes, but it gets you moving and it covers a wide range of motions and muscle groups as well as cardio. It is probably one of my most favorite workouts.

Well done. Got to stay motivated. I don't work out every day apart from trying to do some push-ups in the morning and/or before bed. I just try to run 3 or 4 times each week. I think that's more than a lot of people manage.

Yes, I think that is much more than most people do! I did some sit ups yesterday and I held a plank for about 30 seconds which was painful, but also an accomplishment for me. I am still not strong enough or too heavy to easily do push ups.
