Game-Week 1 - RoundUp

I know, I know, there is still United vs. Wolves tomorrow, but it sure feels like the game week has ended after that cracker earlier today. The Premier League resumed proceedings on Friday, 11 and we were treated to the finest entertainment. The season started with the champions running riot at Turf Moor with Erling Haaland taking the headlines. So let's run a little recap of yesterday's and today's results.

Game Week 1 - Result

  • Arsenal got off to a winning start as they picked up all three points against Forest. A late goal from the birthday boy, Taiwo Awoniyi looked to have unsettled the gunners but they were able to see out the game.
  • Crystal Palace got their campaign up and running with a win at Bramall Lane. Odsonne Eduard got the only goal of the game as the visitors took all three points.
  • Elsewhere, Bournemouth battled it out with the Hammers. Dominic Solanke pulled a goal back late in to game to ensure the spoils were shared.
  • Brighton were comfortable winners against newly promoted Luton, as they put four past the newcomers.
  • Everton were off to a shaky start after suffering defeat courtesy of a simple finish from Bobby De Cordova-Reid.
  • Newcastle looked like they were ready to make a claim to a top-four spot again this season as they thumped Aston Villa for five. Debutants, Tonali and Harvey Barnes getting on the score sheet for the Magpies.
  • Brentford was held to a 2-2 draw after first coming from behind to lead, but a late first-half goal from Emerson Royal ensured the spoils were split.

AND...

  • The big game of the game week, Chelsea vs. Liverpool did not disappoint. After four meetings in a roll ending in a stalemate, fans were hoping for some change, and the game delivered. A quick start from Liverpool saw Salah hit the crossbar. A few moments later the Egyptian King found Luis Diaz with a sublime pass, as the Colombian poked it home from close range to give the Reds an early lead. Later on, Mohammed Salah had his goal chalked off for offside. The Egyptian unable to continue his streak of scoring in every opening day game since his arrival at Liverpool. The blues responded with a few chances of their own before finally equalizing thanks to a sliding finish from new boy, Axel Disasi. The Blues also had a goal disallowed for offside, as Ben Chillwell wandered offside courtesy of a pass from Enzo Fernandez after rounding the keeper to finish nicely. WHAT A GAME. Enzo Fernandez picked up the Man of the Match award after a fine display in the middle of the park.

Now we look to tomorrow's clash at Old-Trafford.
