Horse racing - Follow the Tipster - 16th October

Yesterday's Recap - 15th October, 2022

Began towards the rear of the field. Pushed on from 2f out and moved forward well. Led inside the final furlong brifely, buit couldn't match the pace of the winner, overtaken in the last 110 yards unfortunately. Ran on well, however, to be a clear 2nd.

Drama on the final day of the Racing Post's Napster Tipping Competition. At the start of the day the top two had chosen to pick the same horse for their bets. Sweet Believer in the Balmoral Handicap at Ascot. As i noted in yesterdays post this would have meant Expert Eye, ahead by £6 at the beginning of racing, being a shoe in for the title. Third placed Melissa Jones was hoping for a big return with her selection in an earlier, but that challenge died with a 10th place finish and at 40-1 would have landed the title for her. I'm sure Expert Eye who was now in poll position breathed a sigh of relief. On the day Sweet Believer finished 2nd, even leading briefly inside the final furlong. But the big shock was the horse who won that very same race, Shelir, came home at a stonking 80-1, and whipped the trophy out of Expert Eye's hands, handing it to Andrew Bladen of the Wolverhampton Express & Star. The margin of the victory was over £40, all thanks to just 1 horse. Unfancied by the punters given his high starting price, but came up trumps on the day.

So the flat season tipster competition has come to an end, and certainly the last half of the strategy hasn't been as successful as the first half, with September being particularly poor results wise. We did, however, come out with a small profit from the experience. The tipster we
were following for the most part of this campaign got pipped at the post for the title of Top Tipster by a huge 80-1 outsider on the last day, although you might argue losing by over £40 profit isnt exactly being pipped...lol

As the tipsters have all posted a selection for today, which I believe marks the start of the Autumn/Winter competition (normally associated with the Jump season - but with the advent of all weather surfaces flat racing continues all year round now) we are having a punt for today, and we'll start with Andrew Bladen's pick as he is listed a top for now.
