Strava2Hive Update And Payouts Post for 2022-08-01
Welcome to our weekly rewards post for @strava2hive. The rewards for our top 10 athletes are from a small pool of 4 HBD that was generated over the past week. I have a marathon this weekend, so will be training a little less over the next few days, but look out for @run.vince.run smashing out 42km on Saturday(Hopefully).
There has also been a lot of cool sporting events on like the Tour De France, Athletics World Championships and a personal favorite of mine, the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. I hope it is inspiring people to get out and work out. There have been heaps of cool activities, with 39 posted this week using the @strava2hive service. Thanks to the new users who have also joined on in the past week.
[A selection of some of the great posts in the last week]
Like I mentioned last week, we will be moving our leader board to "Calories" burned over the week. We will see how that works out and let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
Currently, we are rewarding the top 10 athletes with the goal of expanding this depending on usage. Rewards are calculated form the users activity posts where one activity post is counted as 1, and each activity is accumulated over the week.
- @run.vince.run 7 Posted Activity(s) **
- @new.things 6 Posted Activity(s) - 0.76 HBD
- @mervinthepogi 6 Posted Activity(s) - 0.76 HBD
- @svanbo 5 Posted Activity(s) - 0.64 HBD
- @kiwibloke 4 Posted Activity(s) - 0.48 HBD
- @ervin-lemark 3 Posted Activity(s) - 0.36 HBD
- @dannewton 3 Posted Activity(s) - 0.36 HBD
- @mimismartypants 2 Posted Activity(s) - 0.24 HBD
- @steevc 1 Posted Activity(s) - 0.12 HBD
- @ataliba 1 Posted Activity(s) - 0.12 HBD
** run.vince.run and strava2hive are organisers of the service and as a result is happy to forfiet any rewards earned and they are placed back into the pool of HDB offered to users.
The rewards currently are being done manually with the hope to automate everything in the near future once I decide specifically how it will work.
Updates For The Week
This is a not so sexy update on the project as it is more to do with code and making things work more smothly. When I first started on this project, I think I mentioned that I wanted to try and keep any of the costs as low as possible, hoping to save as much as possible to then pass back to users of the service. This has been going along pretty smoothly, but some of the hourly processing times have been getting longer and longer as new users have been signing up. This week's focus has been on trying to reduce the processing time and clean up the code again without adding any additional cost to the project. This has gone pretty well with the hourly processing running on average for about 15 minutes, down to about 8 minutes. This has also seemed to reduce the number of errors from the Strava API. These errors were happening at least once a day, but now rarely happenning.
I know sooner or later I will have to make the server a bit more "Productionized", but hopefully I still have a few weeks to prepare for this until then. I know where some more savings can be made but this will include moving it to something like AWS.
MapMyRunOrRide???
Another option might be to also integrate MapMyRun with this application and have any new features from the MapMyRun functionality migrated into @strava2hive. This is just me thinking and will need to see if I have the time to get something like this started.
If you have a community that you would like to add to the @strava2hive project, please let me know

I should be now really try out this service! To bad I didn’t try the past days, as I rode +300km on my bike over the weekend!
Good luck with the Marathon, that’s pretty big!
Wow 300km that's awesome mate. Either way it will be cool to see your riding and activity
I will need to recover for a couple of days, but once back on the bike, I'll post!
