Stuart's 20/20 World Cup Series 29: Super Eight Match Report 4
Game One USA 128 all out v 130/1 West Indies West Indies WIN
USA still have England to play but it would take the unlikeliest combination of results for them to progress in this tournament.
A relatively good power play saw USA 48 for 1, a steady 8 per over run rate. It was little preparation for the pressure West Indies would exert. Between the three Bolwers Hosein, Motie, And Chase, ten overs, half the innings, produced only 46 runs. Chase took 3 wickets for the 19 runs he conceded, Motie took one of the other wickets. Russell, McCoy, and Joseph's gave away 82 runs, and took five of the other wickets - Milind Kumar being the player run out.
Even in the context of this world cup, where there have been low scoring games of great intensity, this was unlikely to be enough to pressure a West Indies side smarting from their defeat to England.
In just 11 overs they got the runs. Shai Hope launched a blistering attack on USA bowlers and pummelled them. in 39 balls he scored 82 runs of which four were 4's and eight were 6's.
The swing in run rate puts West Indies comfortably above England in the table. Who ever wins the game between them and South Africa will be in the semi-finals
Game Two India 196/5 v 19468 Bangladesh India WIN
Virat Kohli scored his highest knock of the tournament, 37, but was bowled by Sakib just as it was time to capitalise on the start he'd made. And much the same can be said for Pant and Dube, who also got to scores in the mid-thirties but were then dispatched by the attack. Pandya's fifty could well have been more, but the innings caem to an end and the fifth highest total of the tournament so far would be a challenge for any team, certainly for Bangladesh.
The reply started cautiously, but steadily and it wasn't until the tenth over that Bangladesh lost a second wicket. But, as happens regularly in this tournament, the breaks are applied by the bowling team and Bumrah and Yadav conceded on 32 runs for their eight overs, while sharing 5 wickets between them. Wickets fell in the 10th, 12th, 14th, 16th, 19th, and 20th overs and that steady attrition prevented any momentum being created.
Having beaten the bottom two teams, India are guaranteed semi-final spot and Bangladesh are out.
