My Actifit Report Card: September 26 2021

Another busy day tackling the garage. Having cleared the floor, I started going through boxes ... I think I did three today. I'm not sure where the contents from one of the boxes came from, maybe a shop I vacated in 2008. Certainly lots of things I don't use now. Some went straight in the bin, most in the recycling after emptying and rinsing containers.

It may be possible to reduce three sets of shelves into two, I'm starting to feel hopeful.

Spent time in the garden harvesting the last of the tomatoes (shown in the picture). Very pleased with the final crop and may manage to ripen them all. Previous ones have done pretty well in the window.

Good recipe from Nigel Slater in the Sunday paper for confit tomatoes - skin and seed large tomatoes, halve and seed cherry tomatoes. Pack in a baking dish in single layer, dot with thyme, rosemary, garlic and peppercorns, season and just cover with olive oil. Bake for three hours at 120 degrees. Cool for five minutes, then spoon into sterilised storage jars. Use as pasta sauce, or to add to chicken or fish bake (and probably many other things).

Spent the evening noodling,

My tomatoes are a late bloomer. I had one single tomato that took nearly two months to ripe, and all the rest have just come to fruit these couple of weeks. Not sure if they will make it to ripe as it's starting to get cold now

Same here - took ages. We had very abundant yields on each truss so I stopped any more growing after three trusses, just so there would be enough time for them to ripen.

The night time temperatures are starting to drop between 10 degrees here, so I thought I would bring the last trusses into the house where it's warmer. I'm hoping the majority will ripen, they've done pretty well the last week or two.

Overall, they've done pretty well this year, in spite of the weather. We only had four plants (plum, salad, beef and cherry) and they've done well - tomatoes three times a day at the moment!
