Djokovic - Federer "dodges" the Rogers Cup 2019

The Wimbledon champion 2019 and world no. 1 player Novak Djokovic announced his withdrawal from the Rogers Cup next month in Montreal, Canada. For the reason, he needed more rest time after conquering the 16th Grand Slam title.

The 32-year-old Serbian has experienced a tough battle with Roger Federer in the Wimbledon final and he said he needs longer recovery time. “I'm sorry to announce that I will withdraw from the Rogers Cup. I love Canadian audiences and I always feel at home every time I play there. I hope one day I will play in Canada again, ”Djokovic said.

Novak Djokovic's withdrawal also means that in the next tournament, Rafael Nadal will be the No. 1 seed of the tournament. Nadal won the Rogers Cup championship four times, the last time it was last year when he defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas in the final.

Besides Djokovic, Juan Martin del Potro also withdrew from Rogers Cup due to injury last month. The Argentinian has undergone right knee surgery and he is currently in the process of recovery.

Roger Federer after the Wimbledon finals also announced that he would ignore Rogers Cup to focus his energy on the US Open 2019. The competition for the US Open will be intense since Djokovic, Nadal, and Federer are no longer far apart from the number of Grand Slam titles.
