RR vs LSG Preview
This should be a really well contested game by 2 teams looking to turn a solid start to IPL 2022 into a fantastic one.
The Royals came undone at this very stadium on Tuesday night when they lost against RCB to end their winning start to the season. It was a decent effort by the men in pink but it did continue to underline the importance of winning the toss at the Wankhede Stadium where the dew factor has probably had more of an impact then anywhere else.
This is a fact that Lucknow themselves know all too well following their defeat against Gujarat Titans in their inaugural game also at the Wankhede and also having lost the toss and been asked to bat first.
Removing the dew factor from the equation, Rajasthan will still be disappointed to have let RCB recover from a position 87 for 5 to chase down their total of 170 and it perhaps underlines their lack of a quick bowler who can make things happen in the middle overs and support the great work that Chahal in particular is doing for them.
LSG meanwhile have wracked up 3 wins in a row albeit against some of the sides that have struggled in the early parts of IPL 2022 (DC, SRH and CSK). This then should be a sterner challenge for Lucknow but the continue to look a well balanced side with the arrival of Jason Holder adding to both their batting and bowling strength.
LSG's all-round options are also boosted by the arrival of Marcus Stoinis who is likely to be vying for a spot in the side with West Indian Evin Lewis for this match. Stoinis had great success with DC over the last couple as a finisher but could find himself in the top order for LSG, a role that he is more familiar with in his native Australia.
In fact, LSG showed in their win against DC at the DY Patil Stadium that their squad has real depth and quality when they brought in Krishnappa Gowtham. His powerful late order hitting wasn't needed but his off-breaks helped restrict the Captials to a fairly meagre total.
Given the differences between that surface and the one the 2 teams are likely to find here at the Wankhede, I'd be surprised if Gowtham was given that role again and indeed he may not even be in the starting XI with both sides likely to favour swing and seam as they hunt early wickets in the powerplay.

Run-rate in the powerplay IPL 2022
You could make a good argument for the Royals having the strongest powerplay batting unit in the tournament to date. PBKS may be scoring at a much faster rate than Rajasthan or indeed anyone in the IPL so far this year but they do have a habit of throwing away wickets at the same time. Rajasthan meanwhile have balanced attack with good shot selection helping them to get off to flying starts while maintaining wickets for the later part of the innings.
Jos Buttler has been chief architect of those fine starts and his record against this current LSG bowling line-up is very strong suggesting he might be able to add to his already impressive haul of runs.

LSG's spin options have been very effective so far with youngster Ravi Bisnoi a real wicket taking threat in the middle overs. He'll be supported by Krunal Pandya who knows these conditions very well from his time with Mumbai Indians.
Pandya T20 stats at the Wankhede Stadium
However, Pandya's head to head stats against this Rajasthan team are poor. In fact, he's not dismissed any of the current Royal's squad in T20 cricket before and his economy rate against them is 9.5. You'd expect left-handers like Padikkal and Hetmyer to enjoy facing him but it's also the right-handers in Sanju Samson (S/R 156) and Jos Buttler (S/R 166) that have taken him down in previous encounters.

The Wankhede pitch always offers something for seamers early on but equally it's good bounce and carry means that if a quick gets it wrong then batsmen can really cash in.
As mentioned above, The Royals struggled to finish off RCB in their last match also played at the Wankhede and when you look at the records of a couple of their seamers you can see why. Both Prasidh Krishna and Navdeep Saini lacked penetration and control as RCB were able to wrestle back the initiative.

Trent Boult could hold the key to Rajasthan making early inroads into this strong LSG top order but his head to head record against KL Rahul in particular shows this is a match-up that the LSG skipper quite enjoys. When you also factor in that "King Legend" averages 66.5 at this ground then there's reason to believe he'll have a big impact on this match today.

One match-up that will work in Rajasthan's favour will be their spin twins against Quinton de Kock. Ashwin (4 wkts) and Chahal (5 wkts) have both dominated the left-hander and given his good form so far in IPL 2022, Rajasthan will be hoping they can continue to do so in this fixture.
