The World Athletics championship has been on and running for some days in Hayward Field of Oregon, US. The championship which was originally supposed to take off in 2021 was postponed to this year due to some issues one of which is the Covid-19 pandemic. Against all odds some hours ago, records were shattered in the hurdles category. The Nigerian-born Tobi Amusan broke and set two World Records within hours of each other. The sprinter ran the 100m hurdle in 12.12s and ultimately, 12.06 respectively; smashing the previous record of United States’ Keni Harrison of 2016. This was after which the 25-year-old got the gold medal in the finals.

Tobi had competed in previous tournaments, one of which was the 2019 World Championship in Doha, Qatar where she came fourth. Although, she did run her best then in 12.48s. This was not the only time she broke some records. For some time now, she has been doing serial smashing on records including the one she had set. Since she was noticed in 2013 when she won a silver medal in the African Youth Championships held in the city of Warri. She has gone on to contest at different athletics tournaments both home and abroad.

Tobi, basking in the glory of her achievement, walked away with a sum of $100,000 on an occasion that I believe was also the first time the Nigerian anthem was sang ever in this championship. Historically, her name will go down as the first Nigerian to clinch the gold medal in a World Athletics Championship.

In the same vein, a fellow compatriot Ese Brume won the Silver medal in the Women’s Long Jump.

I say congratulations to them both!
This is my first time here though, I think I deserve a medal .😁

Yes...she deserved the records she set. Only she knows the amount of determination, stress etc she had put into it which is by no means an easy one!

I am really excited to see her win and also how much it means to her. It's impressive. They can try all the analysis they want to try about the wind and her world record, it won't change anything from her win. She's amazing and gave her all. That's all that matters to me.

Don't mind them.. As if wind is not a natural thing to occur. All in all to me, she set two world records straight whether na wind or breeze..😅
