A really long long day. My Actifit Report Card: March 28 2024

Today it was time to say goodbye to vacation life and head back to regular life.

We spent 12 days on vacation. We got to go on a cruise, spend time at the beach, visit family and make memories.

However, today it was time to pack up and head to the airport.

In the morning we did have a late checkout in the hotel. The area around us was awful for walking (I feel sorry for any locals who need to get their 10k steps in). Instead of walking the family decided to head down to the pool and do some laps. We also figured the hot tub would be nice.

As a Marriott Gold member I was able to get a 2pm checkout which made a lot of difference. Our plane didn't leave until 6pm so a few extra hours in the hotel before going to the airport was nice.

As usual the airport was awful. Going through screening always sucks. Then spending time in a crowded waiting area with expensive food and uncomfortable chairs it brutal.

We were hoping to go to the executive lounge. Unfortunately the lounge we had access to was in terminal #3 and we were leaving from termainal #2. (sigh) that sucked.

We got onto the airplane at 6pm and it was a 7 hour flight. That means we got into Seattle at 1am. Now there is a 3hr time difference so it was only 10pm Seattle time but still.

Got into Seattle and then it was the challenge to find our way out of the airport and over to the hotel pickup area. I thought it was the "airporter" area but unfortunately it was the "ground transport" area. Tired grumpy family walking around the airport trying to find the right place.

Luckily when I called the hotel for pickup they said the shuttle should be there very soon. When I looked it had arrived while I was on the phone. Horray! Except it looked full (sigh)...and it had just enough seats left and just enough space for our luggage. God was looking out for us on that one.

Got to the hotel and picked up our vehicle without issue. Except I had to get gas at 11pm (2am Miami time). Found a station that was open and got gas...that was $1.50 (30%) more than it should be (ugh). Got gas and was going to go home then I get the call from the kids....we're hungry.

Arggh, I'm tired and just want to go home ASAP because its a 3hr drive! But I see a restaurant (Jack in the Box) and pull in. There is a drunk guy by the door and a homeless person wandering nearby which kind of freaks out my wife but the kids insist on getting food.

20min later the kids have food...my wife didn't want anything... I got a kids meal for when my wife changes her mind (Something I've learned after being married a long time).

Finally I get to start the going home process. The kids eat their meals and share some with their mom. She is still a little hungry so I offer her the kids meal ... she eats a bit and leaves the rest for me. I'm much more tired than hungry but someone has to drive.

What happens when driving through Seattle late at night? Roadwork of course. My wife and kids grumble but not long into the drive they all fall asleep.

I soldier on and drive in a quiet vehicle on dark roads. The border guard is quick to check us through as there is no-one in line at 2am (5am Miami time) and the roads are pretty clear.

Still, when I arrive at home its 2:30am (5:30am Maimi time) and I've been awake for 25 hours straight. I don't unpack. Don't shave. Don't even brush my teeth (shame on me). I just strip down and flop in bed.

Now I'm actually posting this report as a "yesterday" post with Actifit. No way I'm typing when I'm that tired :) I was actually surprised to find I did almost 8k steps. Not bad for doing nothing but pacing through airport lineups.

Still...it was a very long, very uneventful day. Not recommended but sometimes that's just how things go.

Thanks for dropping by.

Until tomorrow :)
