New hotel, new gym. another 8K steps. My Actifit Report Card: February 28 2026

Where did all my steps come from? Primarily from the treadmill. It is actually quite nice having a gym only 1 minute away. When I was to get my exercise just to go the elevator (or stairs), push a button, and horray I can get my steps in.
However, just doing cardio may get the heart pumping but its not awesome for losing weight. Here is the cascade as I see it. Muscle burns fat. Less muscle means less fat loss. Sure the heart is a muscle but there are lots more as well. If you can strengthen them they will strengthen your calorie deficit and eventually fat loss.

I may just report my steps here but I'm actually doing weights daily as well.
But just weights and cardio misses out on stretching and balance.
Sad to say but as we get older the body gets more tight. Without stretching regularly its really easy to become "tight" and less able to move freely.
Even worse is balance. People don't think about it much but balance is super important. Poor balance means more falls. Falls = injury and that injury ets more severe as people age. Result: I always do stretches and balancing at least once a day and hopefully even more.
Now other than that today?
I went from the Aloft to the Four points.
The Four Points hotel was much nicer than I expected. It doesn't have a lounge but they treated me to high tea when I arrived. Except I don't drink tea or coffee...but they were kind enough to bring orange juice.

It was nice to have that little snack although I'm not so sure that it is diet friendly. Still my room wasn't quite ready so it gave me a pleasant diversion for the 10 minutes they told me until the room would be done.
I smiled while eating my snacks. The staff were working very hard to get ready for the Iftar dinner rush coming later in the afternoon.

There were people everywhere during the meal time. I was hot and sweaty from the gym and had to go through a bunch of people to talk to the front desk for an HDMI cable. Kind of embarassing as everyone was wearing fine clothes and I'm in sweatpants and a sweaty shirt..
Getting In shape and fine dining just don't mix well. However awkwardness aside...
After the complimentary tea I went up to my room.
There was a welcome gift on the table waiting for me.

I can't believe I didn't take a picture of it. However, you can see it hiding out on the table in front of the couch.
As for the room. Fancy
The best thing for me though is an actual work desk. That is Sooo. Nice for writing articles on :)

Overall I was really impressed with the room :)
Wish I knew about this place earlier in my stay as its too late now to stay here more days.
Oh well, maybe next time :)
