Epic Games, the company behind Fortnite, has filed lawsuits against Apple and Google after the decision of the two technological giants to remove the popular video game from their respective app stores in response to the introduction by its creators of a system of payments that allowed players to make purchases without going through the box office of the platforms.

Both Apple and Google collect up to 30% of all revenue and purchases made through the App Store and Google Play, something that has been denounced as excessive by application developers. Epic Games decided to introduce a purchasing mechanism within Fortnite on Thursday that circumvented this obligation, also offering discounts on Apple's fees, which led to the blocking of the application in the Cupertino giant's store.

If in the case of the lawsuit against the apple company, Epic Games recalls the famous announcement of the launch of Apple's first Macintosh in 1984, which in reference to the work of George Orwell was presented as the end of the monopoly then exercised by IBM , in the complaint against Google, the video game developer mentions the slogan Dont Be Evil (Don't be bad) with which the popular search engine became known in 1998.

In this way, Epic Games accuses Apple and Google of carrying out monopolistic practices in their stores and anti-competitive practices in environments such as Android and IOS. "Apple has become what it once criticized: a giant that seeks to control markets, block competition and stifle innovation,"says Epic Games in the lawsuit filed against the iPhone company, which it accuses of being "more bigger, more powerful and more pernicious than the monopolists of old."

In the case of Google, the Fortnite developer considers that this company "has relegated its motto to almost an occurrence, and is using its size to do bad to competitors, innovators, customers and users in a large number of markets in the world. that has grown to monopolize."

In a statement to the media, Apple noted that Epic Games "freely accepted the terms and guidelines of the App Store," adding that the fact that their business interests now lead them to push for a special arrangement "does not change the fact that these guidelines create a level playing field for all developers and make the store safe for all users."

For its part, from Google they explained that the withdrawal of the Fortnite application from the Play Store responds to a violation of the pre-established rules. "For game developers who choose to use the Play Store, we have consistent policies that are fair to developers and keep the store safe for users. While Fortnite remains available on Android, we can no longer do so on Play because it violates our policies. However, we welcome the opportunity to continue our discussions with Epic and bring Fortnite back to Google Play, "a spokesperson stated.

According to data from the Sensor Tower consultancy, only in the month of July Fortnite registered two million downloads and obtained around 34 million dollars (29 million euros) in revenue.

Really sounds like a violation of anti trust, but I wonder if a lawsuit is even worth it though. People love fortnight so much they probably wouldn't mind circumventing Google or apple.

So what if appple and Google make a horrible business mistake?
Either way epic game win I think.
Great article
