Fossils Adventure at a Stunning Beach (extra video coming soon)

avatar

On Saturday, I set out on a hike with two goals in mind: to discover a beautiful beach and to find at least one fossil along the way. My destination was the famous Kreidefelsen (chalk cliffs) in Jasmund National Park on the island of Rügen. The experience was absolutely unforgettable, and if you ever get the chance to visit Rügen, you should definitely explore this incredible place!

Our amber tour guide from Wednesday explained that this area can be dangerous due to the constant erosion and the risk of falling rocks, but it’s also a treasure trove for fossil hunters. She shared some great tips on where to search and what to look for, based on her own many discoveries there.

Sadly, I had to make this trip alone because my girlfriend caught a cold from the chilly winds and the unpredictable weather. Still, even solo, the hike was completely worth it. Along the way, I tested out a new selfie stick and played around with my phone’s video features. I was especially impressed by the dual-camera mode: it came in handy more than once and helped me capture some great shots for you!

both screenshots are from google maps ;)

The Kreidefelsen aren’t just known for their fossils and breathtaking views! They also rise up to 118 meters above the sea, creating some of the most striking coastal scenery in Germany. The cliffs are constantly changing because the sea steadily erodes their base, making every visit a little different from the last and a little dangerous as well ;)

So, did I find a fossil? Yesss and here is the proof:

Donnerkeile aka thunder stones and a "I dont know if that's a fossil" thing ;)

What does the beach actually look like, and how impressive are the famous chalk cliffs in person? Did I manage to stay on the right path, or did I get lost in the forest? Find out in my upcoming separate 3speak video. Unfortunately, the video upload on Actifit is not working again, so I will have to upload the video in a separate post via the more often working 3speak app. I really would like to avoid this, but yeah - I have worked for around 4h on the video and will not skip the upload to Hive. Hopefully, these issues will get fixed, or I will need to find another way of dealing with actifit video posts.

Guten tag, Dear @tibfox !
I am glad meet to you!
Are you german?
I am an east asian!

It was my first time seeing the cold, rough and wild coast of the North Sea and I was amazed!
I guessed you were a scholar who studies fossils!

I want to be friends with you from now on!
Thank you for good article!

Guten tag!

I used to follow a few Germans, but they are no longer active on Hive.
I live in a country located between China and Japan!😄

Ooh, stunning! I have no idea (yet) what the beach looks like, though to be honest, from these photos, I'm imagining the beach is pretty damn impressive, also.
