A terrible weekend. Weekend-Engagement topics: WEEK 181

A necessary introduction

The weekends of December 16-17 and 23-24, 2017 are some of the worst I remember in my life because days that should be for sharing with family, closing the week's cycle, going to the beach, hiking, concerts or reading a book and resting turned into a very hard nightmare for my siblings, my loved ones and me because our guiding star was debating between life and death.

Now I can write about this, but it still tears my soul and hurts me to the core because the pain and all that my mother suffered marked us forever and we all suffered those hard moments that marked the beginning of the end of our Tata, because, although she managed to overcome this accident to her health months later she would cease to exist, as a result of this event.

I thought about whether or not to make the presentation because it is a painful subject, but I think I can contribute and teach something with this publication, especially to those who have their mothers alive to care for, adore, celebrate, love and respect them because once they are gone a part of the heart they gave her will not heal.

My mother's accident

On December 15, I received devastating news: My mother had suffered a heart attack while riding a bicycle cab and fell, opening a wound on her forehead. In truth, it was two accidents, a heart attack and an injury. I confess that many times it seems that the news does not affect me because my face does not express how terrible it is, but the reality is that inside I am devastated and in this case my soul collapsed and my inner lights collapsed.

Arrival at the hospital

Early in the morning I left for the provincial hospital where my mother was admitted and some of my siblings were taking care of her. Almost 700 kilometers seemed like a boat trip from Cuba to Sydney. Fortunately I arrived and the embrace of my siblings and I was the strength I needed to face this terrible moment.

My mother's illness

My mom was 72 years old, but she was a strong woman. It must be that the practice of sports and permanent physical exercises kept her in that physical and athletic condition. But, she had a disease that many doctors call silent cancer: Arterial Hypertension.

This condition was the cause of her high blood pressure and caused her to have a heart attack that made her lose consciousness and fall to the pavement, which caused the wound on her forehead.

When she was taken to the hospital in her municipality of residence, she was immediately sent by ambulance to the provincial hospital of Las Tunas.

The diagnosis

The heart attack was so severe that the only way to save my mother's life was to give her a pacemaker, but she could die on the operating table. None of my siblings could sign the consent form and waited for my arrival, something I did once the doctors explained to me that it was their only possibility, despite the risks involved in the operation.

There were several days of waiting, anguish, of being in the surroundings of the hospital and sleeping on benches in that place. Sometimes trying to rest on the floor near the ward where she was admitted, other times in the courtyard of the hospital near where the doctors gave the report of her state of health.

Fortunately she was able to get out of it, but it was a mortal blow to her health that four months later took her life.

A final comment

Many times we think that life is eternal and we do not get to appreciate the value of people when they leave us. I always say this to people and I used to say it to my brothers and sisters because we should give things to human beings while they are alive. When a colleague of mine goes out with his mother, celebrates her birthday, visits her daily or pleases her, I tell them that they do not know how much life they are giving to her life and the immense joy that their mothers receive. That's what I tried to always do with mine, that's why, my pain is there, but I have no regrets because I was almost always there and made her happy.

Thank you @galenkp for the topics you propose every weekend.

This is just 😥, she survive but only for a short time. I hope you spend time with her on those four month that she was able to love. I hope too that you all make her feel love, everyday. Life is really easy to take to us human, that's why while still alive, live your life to the fullest and spread love to anyone.

In spite of the effort she made, it did not last long, but we were very grateful for it with all our hearts. For my part I always loved her with the same intensity because she did so much for me and my siblings. Thank you for reading and sharing. Excellent weekend. Cheers and greetings.

Your words are knowledgeable my friend. Telling sad and painful events that we have gone through is a way of healing the soul. It is good to release and be nostalgic. It's the same for me with my grandfather. My paternal grandfather died before I was born, my maternal grandfather died 7 years ago. While the grandfather died a few months ago, he was an important person at the time of covi19, he was very supportive. Thank you for giving us such good advice

I have found in the way of talking about her the way to free myself from some of the inevitable pain that you feel when you lose what you have loved most in life. But, I do it also, so that people love their loved ones more and above all, that unique being that is the mother. Thank you for your beautiful words. Happy journey. Cheers and greetings.
