[ESP/ENG] La grandeza de Marruecos/ The greatness of Morocco

Esta publicación me ha salido de un tirón y no tiene el objetivo de analizar un partido de fútbol de dos selecciones ni nada por el estilo, pues al ver lo realizado por el equipo de Marruecos no me ha quedado más remedio que rendirme a sus pies y valorar la actuación realizada por este equipo como hazaña gigantesca y GRANDEZA con mayúscula.

Más allá de las eliminaciones de Alemania, España, Brasil, Bélgica o Países Bajos considero que la mayor sorpresa de la Copa del Mundo es la actuación de Marruecos que logra la hazaña de convertirse en el primer país del continente africano en estar en una semifinal de Copas del Mundo.

Algunos elementos sobre Marruecos

País con algo más de 35 millones de habitantes que se encuentra en el continente africano y tiene fronteras marítimas con el océano Atlántico y el mar Mediterráneo y con España tiene fronteras terrestres.

A pesar de ser un país que tuvo en la equitación a su deporte favorito la llegada de algunos deportes como Tenis, Polo y Fútbol diversificaron la práctica del deporte. Es así que el fútbol pasa a ser el deporte más practicado en el país y en México 1970 participa en su primera Copa del Mundo. De igual manera ha participado en las copas mundiales de 1994, 1998, 2018 y 2022.

En México 1986 se convirtió en el primer país del continente africano en clasificarse para una segunda ronda de una copa mundial.

¿Dónde juegan los futbolistas de Marruecos?

Los jugadores de esta selección juegan en algunos de los clubes más importantes del mundo y en mucho de ellos son jugadores importantes. Entre otros, podemos señalar a algunos como:

Inicio de la hazaña marroquí.

Marruecos fue ubicado en una Fase de Grupos en las que estaban la subcampeona del mundial anterior, el número dos del ranking mundial de la FIFA y el líder de la clasificación en Concacaf. En ese escenario tenía que competir Marruecos y comenzar a forjar su leyenda.

La Cenicienta del grupo

Ante el escenario anterior muchos apuntaban a Marruecos, como la Cenicienta del grupo, pues tanto Croacia, como Bélgica habían sido medallistas de plata y bronce en Rusia 2018 y Canadá había tenido unas eliminatorias muy buenas en las que desbancó del liderato a las selecciones de México y Estados Unidos las habituales en esas posiciones de las eliminatorias mundialistas.

El primer partido del mundial.

El partido inicial de Marruecos fue contra una de las finalistas del mundial de Rusia 2018 y que ganó la medalla de plata: Croacia. Este era un examen muy exigente ante una selección muy experimentada, con jugadores de gran calidad.

Fue un partido con dominio alterno y con un esquema de juego que tuvo en el centro del campo su batalla más intensa. Croacia tuvo cierto dominio en el primer tiempo, pero nada que Marruecos no pudiera controlar.

En el segundo tiempo Croacia disminuyó la presión y se incrementó la de Marruecos que tuvo en Hakimi su principal peligro. Croacia acudió a su experiencia y ante el empuje de los marroquíes prefirió el empate que arriesgarse a una victoria de los africanos.

Marruecos vs Bélgica

El segundo partido de la selección africana era contra Bélgica que venía como líder del grupo F tras su victoria ante Canadá un gol por cero.

El partido tuvo un inicio intenso por parte de Bélgica, pero los llamados Leones del Atlas supieron controlar a sus rivales. Ni Kevin De Bruyne ni Eden Hazard pudieron desentrañar la defensa marroquí y sin su delantero centro Romelo Lukaku nada podían hacer. En cambio, Marruecos comenzaba a adelantar líneas y en el final del primer tiempo marcaron un gol por intermedio de Ziyech que fue anulado por un fuera de juego, pero los africanos venían a ganar.

El segundo tiempo fue de dominio africano y en el minuto 72 tuvieron su primer gol del mundial, por intermedio de Roman Saiss. En el minuto 92, con Bélgica volcada para buscar el empate Marruecos le hizo el segundo en un contragolpe conducido por Ziyech y concluido por Zakaria Aboukhlal. Marruecos lanzaba un aviso y se ponía al frente de su grupo y con su portería en cero.

Partido de clasificación.

El tercer partido de Marruecos fue la reafirmación de que no venían a pasar por la Copa del Mundo, como un invitado, sino que venían a competir y a luchar por un resultado histórico y fue así como afrontaron el juego contra Canadá a la que rápidamente comenzaron a dominar cuando en los minutos 4 y 23 anotaron dos de sus jugadores líderes (Ziyech y Enesyri).

Canadá lo intentó, tuvo dominio de la posesión del balón, pero Marruecos controló el partido y fue fiel a su filosofía de juego. Lo anterior se hizo evidente cuando Canadá se acercó al marcador y en el minuto 40 le anotó el único gol que ha recibido la selección africana en este mundial.

Cuando el árbitro pitó el final del encuentro el marcador favorecía a Marruecos que con esa victoria ganaba el Grupo F, no perdió ningún encuentro de la Fase de Grupos y sólo recibió un gol en contra.

Octavos contra España

Muchos alegan que España quería a Marruecos y no a Croacia, entre otras cosas, porque al quedar segundos del grupo los españoles evitaban a Argentina y Brasil y que jugar contra Marruecos les daría la victoria que los pondría entre las 8 mejores selecciones del mundial. Que lejos estaban los españoles de saber lo que les esperaba.

Fue un partido en el que los españoles tuvieron un dominio del balón superior al 70%, con más de 1000 pases, pero los marroquíes fueron fieles a su esquema táctico y a su estrategia de juego y lograron solventar las pocas amenazas de los ibéricos.

90 minutos no fueron suficientes y el partido se fue a la prórroga, algo que tampoco fue suficiente, para decidir el partido y buscar un ganador.

La lotería de los penales

Se enfrentaban dos porteros de la Liga Española: Unai Simón de la Rola y Yassine Bono de los Leones del Atlas y el de Marruecos ganó (3 a 0) el pulso al parar dos de los tres disparos de los jugadores rivales, el otro tiro lo erró un jugador español.
Con esta victoria Marruecos hacía historia y se convertía en el primer país de África en estar en Cuartos de Final.

Cuartos, contra la Portugal de CR7

Un partido más difícil que el anterior, pero que Marruecos lo jugó e interpretó mucho mejor y nunca se escondió ni fue conservador en su juego. Es más, los marroquíes jugaron de poder a poder con los portugueses que acababan de pasarle por arriba a los suizos con un 6 a 1 contundente que hacía presagiar otra fiesta goleadora, teniendo en cuenta la excelente defensa de Suiza.

Pero, nada de lo anterior sucedió y entre el juego colectivo de Marruecos, el sacrificio en defensa de sus jugadores, las ayudas solidarias y escalonadas de todos sus futbolistas impidieron que Portugal estuviera cómoda en su juego.

En el minuto 42 explotó la grada marroquí cuando Enesyri anotó un gol de cabeza que dejaba atónitos a los jugadores de Portugal. Ni la entrada de Cristiano Ronaldo en el segundo tiempo ni todos los cambios ofensivos realizados por Fernando Santos pudieron mover el marcador. Mucho mérito tuvo en este resultado la buena labor realizada por su portero Yassine Bono que tuvo tres paradas magistrales que iban dentro de su portería.

Cuando el árbitro pitó el final del partido miles de personas en el mundo vibraron de alegría porque veían a una selección de África entre los 4 países sobrevivientes en esta copa del mundo; algo que ni los más optimistas pensaban hace 4 años.
Al final, Marruecos eliminó a dos de sus vecinos y si esta publicación pudiera tener otro titular sería: Marruecos el domador de los Ibéricos.

Mi opinión sobre la grandeza marroquí

•La actuación de Marruecos ha demostrado que en el fútbol la distancia entre las naciones se ha acortado, debido a la internacionalización de este deporte.

•El entrenador, con apenas tres meses al frente de la selección ha logrado que más que un grupo de futbolistas sean una familia. Ha logrado aunar al equipo, moldear los egos, poner como elemento principal al equipo y que el sacrificio colectivo es vital, para alcanzar los objetivos.

•La disciplina del equipo ha sido vital y el saber interpretar cada una de las situaciones y esquemas planteados por los diferentes rivales.

•El equipo llegó en una excelente forma física que les ha permitido sacrificarse de manera continua en pos de alcanzar las metas propuestas.

•Los líderes del equipo, como Bono, Hakimi, Ziyech y En Enesyri han dado el ejemplo y han cargado con la mayor responsabilidad, lo que ha contagiado a todo el equipo y los ha hecho una plaza muy difícil de tomar.

•Para tener una idea de lo conseguido por este equipo baste decir que por primera vez en la historia de las Copas del Mundo un técnico africano llega a Cuartos de Final y a Semifinales. Otro elemento que debemos apuntar es que nunca un equipo de África había estado entre los cuatro grandes de un mundial de fútbol.

Una reflexión final.

De todas las sorpresas y cosas importantes ocurridas en esta Copa del Mundo la más importante a juicio de este autor la constituye la selección de Marruecos. Este equipo ha demostrado que el trabajo constante, la preparación rumbo a una competencia, el trabajo en equipo, la unidad y la conducción acertada de un líder pueden conllevar a la victoria.

Marruecos le ha devuelto la esperanza a muchas naciones que pensaban que el estar entre las mejores selecciones del mundo era privativo de las potencias habituales como Brasil, Argentina, Italia, Alemania, España, Francia, Inglaterra o Portugal. A partir de esta actuación muchos niños y jóvenes de África intentarán seguir los pasos de esos jugadores, los que, desde ya, se han convertido en héroes y referentes para los futbolistas jóvenes del mundo.

Esta selección puede o no ir a la final, pueden alcanzar el tercer o cuarto lugares, para muchos eso ya es irrelevante. Es lógico que muchos queramos que alcen la Copa del Mundo una empresa muy difícil, pero no improbable. Al final, ellos se han encargado de derrumbar muros y hacer posible lo imposible.

This publication has come out of the blue and is not intended to analyze a soccer match between two teams or anything like that, because after seeing what the Moroccan team has done, I have no choice but to surrender to their feet and value the performance of this team as a gigantic feat and GREATNESS with a capital B.

Beyond the eliminations of Germany, Spain, Brazil, Belgium or the Netherlands, I consider that the biggest surprise of the World Cup is the performance of Morocco, which achieved the feat of becoming the first country from the African continent to be in a World Cup semifinal.

Some elements about Morocco

Morocco is a country with more than 35 million inhabitants located in the African continent with maritime borders with the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea and land borders with Spain.

Beginning of the Moroccan feat.

Morocco was placed in a group stage that included the runner-up of the previous World Cup, the number two in the FIFA world ranking and the leader of the CONCACAF ranking. It was on that stage that Morocco had to compete and begin to forge its legend.

Cinderella of the group

Given the above scenario, many pointed to Morocco as the Cinderella of the group, as both Croatia and Belgium had been silver and bronze medalists in Russia 2018 and Canada had had a very good qualifiers in which they ousted the teams of Mexico and the United States, the usual teams in those positions in the World Cup qualifiers, from the leadership.

The first match of the World Cup.

Morocco's opening match was against one of the Russia 2018 World Cup finalists and silver medal winners - Croatia. This was a very demanding test against a very experienced team, with players of great quality.

It was a match with alternating dominance and with a game scheme that had in the center of the field its most intense battle. Croatia had some dominance in the first half, but nothing that Morocco could not control.

In the second half Croatia's pressure decreased and Morocco's pressure increased, and Hakimi was their main danger. Croatia resorted to its experience and in the face of the Moroccan push preferred a draw rather than risk a victory for the Africans.

Morocco vs Belgium

The second match of the African team was against Belgium, which came as the leader of group F after its victory over Canada, one goal to zero.

The match had an intense start by Belgium, but the so-called Atlas Lions knew how to control their opponents. Neither Kevin De Bruyne nor Eden Hazard could unravel the Moroccan defense and without their center forward Romelo Lukaku they could do nothing. On the other hand, Morocco started to push forward and at the end of the first half they scored a goal through Ziyech that was disallowed for offside, but the Africans came to win.

The second half was dominated by the Africans and in the 72nd minute they scored their first goal of the World Cup through Roman Saiss. In the 92nd minute, with Belgium looking for the equalizer, Morocco scored their second goal in a counter-attack led by Ziyech and finished by Zakaria Aboukhlal. Morocco sent out a warning and took the lead in their group with a clean sheet.

Qualifying match.

Morocco's third match was the reaffirmation that they did not come to pass through the World Cup, as a guest, but to compete and fight for a historic result and that was how they faced the game against Canada which they quickly began to dominate when in the 4th and 23rd minutes scored two of their leading players (Ziyech and Enesyri).

Canada tried, had dominance of possession, but Morocco controlled the game and was faithful to its philosophy of play. This was evident when Canada got close to the scoreboard and in the 40th minute scored the only goal the African team has conceded in this World Cup.

When the referee blew the final whistle, the scoreboard was in favor of Morocco, which with this victory won Group F, did not lose any match in the Group Stage and conceded only one goal.

Round of 16 against Spain

Many claim that Spain wanted Morocco and not Croatia, among other things, because by finishing second in the group the Spanish avoided Argentina and Brazil and that playing against Morocco would give them the victory that would put them among the top 8 teams in the World Cup. How far were the Spaniards from knowing what awaited them.

It was a match in which the Spaniards had a ball control of over 70%, with more than 1000 passes, but the Moroccans were faithful to their tactical scheme and their game strategy and managed to solve the few threats of the Iberians.

90 minutes were not enough and the match went to extra time, which was not enough to decide the match and find a winner.

The lottery of penalties

Two goalkeepers from the Spanish League faced each other: Unai Simon of the Rola and Yassine Bono of the Atlas Lions and the Moroccan goalkeeper won (3 to 0) by saving two of the three shots of the rival players, the other shot was missed by a Spanish player.
With this victory, Morocco made history and became the first African country to reach the Quarterfinals.

Quarterfinals, against CR7's Portugal

A more difficult match than the previous one, but Morocco played and interpreted it much better and never hid nor were they conservative in their game. What's more, the Moroccans played power to power with the Portuguese, who had just beaten the Swiss with a convincing 6-1 win, which seemed to presage another goal-fest, considering Switzerland's excellent defense.

But nothing of the above happened and between Morocco's collective play, the sacrifice in defense of its players, the solid and staggered help of all its players prevented Portugal from being comfortable in their game.

In the 42nd minute, the Moroccan crowd exploded when Enesyri scored a header that stunned the Portuguese players. Neither the entrance of Cristiano Ronaldo in the second half nor all the offensive changes made by Fernando Santos could move the scoreboard. Much merit had in this result the good work done by their goalkeeper Yassine Bono who had three masterful saves that went inside his goal.

When the referee blew the final whistle of the match, thousands of people around the world vibrated with joy because they saw an African team among the 4 surviving countries in this World Cup; something that not even the most optimistic ones thought 4 years ago.
In the end, Morocco eliminated two of its neighbors and if this publication could have another headline it would be: Morocco the tamer of the Iberians.

My opinion on Moroccan greatness

• Morocco's performance has shown that in soccer the distance between nations has shortened, due to the internationalization of the sport.

• The coach, in just three months at the helm of the national team, has managed to make them more of a family than a group of players. He has managed to unite the team, mold the egos, put the team as the main element and that collective sacrifice is vital to achieve the objectives.

• The team's discipline has been vital, as well as knowing how to interpret each of the situations and schemes proposed by the different opponents.

• The team arrived in an excellent physical shape that has allowed them to sacrifice continuously in order to achieve the proposed goals.

• The leaders of the team, such as Bono, Hakimi, Ziyech and En Enesyri have led by example and have borne the greatest responsibility, which has infected the whole team and made them a very difficult place to take.

• To get an idea of what this team has achieved, suffice it to say that for the first time in the history of the World Cups, an African coach has reached the Quarterfinals and the Semifinals. Another element we should point out is that never before has a team from Africa been among the top four in a World Cup.

A final thought.

Of all the surprises and important things that have happened in this World Cup, the most important in this author's opinion is the Morocco team. This team has shown that constant work, preparation for a competition, teamwork, unity and the wise guidance of a leader can lead to victory.

Morocco has given hope back to many nations that thought that being among the best teams in the world was only for the usual powers such as Brazil, Argentina, Italy, Germany, Spain, France, England or Portugal. From this performance, many children and young people in Africa will try to follow in the footsteps of these players, who have already become heroes and references for young footballers around the world.

This team may or may not go to the final, they may reach third or fourth place, for many that is irrelevant. It is logical that many of us want them to win the World Cup, a very difficult but not improbable undertaking. In the end, they have been in charge of breaking down walls and making the impossible possible.
