Desde hace varios meses he estado publicando historias de vida de atletas cubanos, con el objetivo de darlos a conocer entre los miembros del ecosistema y para que quede constancia escrita de la historia de estos héroes y heroínas.

Además, es un homenaje a mis héroes deportivos, muchos de los cuales me reportaron algunos de los momentos más felices de mi vida y me hicieron vivir momentos inolvidables.

La protagonista de hoy es una de ellas y fue nuestra primera campeona olímpica: Odalis Revé Jiménez, quien en este 2025 cumplió 55 años.

Sus inicios

A pesar de conquistar resultados deportivos tan sobresalientes nunca pensó que su futuro estaría en el judo, y sí en la medicina, con la cual soñaba todos los días.

Nacida un 15 de enero de 1970, en el municipio Sagua de Tánamo, provincia Holguín, atesora una rica historia deportiva ligada a los kimonos y los tatamis.

No obstante, como mismo ha comentado en varias ocasiones, estos resultados llegaron por una necesidad de salir del instituto donde estudiaba porque debía trabajar mucho y eso no le agradaba.

No lo pensó dos veces y comenzó a realizar todas las pruebas con gran interés, según comentó, más para salir del régimen de trabajo interno que por amor a esta actividad deportiva de la cual ha dicho también que no era lo suyo.

Para ese entonces todavía continuaba arraigada su pasión por la medicina y su bata blanca, con el bordado en el bolsillo que diría: Dra. Revé y el estetoscopio al cuello.

Posteriormente, se trasladó a la capital como alumna del profesor Ronaldo Veitía en la preselección nacional y sobre aquel difícil período de adaptación en el Centro de Entrenamiento “Cerro Pelado”, algunas de sus compañeras recuerdan: Cuando Odalis llegó traía los ariques puestos, era tímida, poco sociable y discutía por cualquier cosa.

Mucho tiene que agradecerle La Escuela Cubana de Judo a la paciente labor del excelente profesor, padre y entrenador de las féminas, Ronaldo Veitía, por la obra que logró edificar. El caso que nos ocupa no es una excepción.

En 1989 comenzaba el ciclo olímpico rumbo a Barcelona '92. Entre los planes de nuestra compatriota estaba representar dignamente a nuestro país en el debut femenino cubano de la especialidad.

Ese año asistió a la primera incursión mundialista y estuvo a punto de discutir el título. En 1990 se desarrollaron los Juegos Centroamericanos y del Caribe, en Ciudad de México, y alcanzó la medalla de oro.

1991 constituyó un año de consolidación de su carrera deportiva al celebrarse los XI Juegos Deportivos Panamericanos, con el incentivo de que fueron en Cuba. Por esos días solo tenía una idea y una aspiración: ganar el metal dorado en su país.

Su empeño y los entrenamientos afloraron los resultados y Odalis Revé Jiménez agregaba a su medalla de bronce mundial y al oro centroamericano, el título de campeona panamericana. No había dudas, en el debut olímpico había que contar con ella.

En el propio año 1991 participa en el Campeonato Mundial desarrollado en el “Palacio Blaugrana” de Barcelona, la misma instalación que en los Juegos Olímpicos utilizarían los judocas.

En la cita universal demostró su calidad ante todas las rivales a las que se enfrentó hasta llegar a la gran final.
