Una introducción necesaria

Los que han seguido mis publicaciones sobre las Grandes Ligas del béisbol de los Estados Unidos saben que los dos equipos que más sigo son los Yankees de Nueva York y los Astros de Houston.

En el caso de los de la Gran Manzana, comencé a seguirlos por el amor que sentía mi papá por ese equipo y, en el caso de los Siderales, por jugadores que he admirado de Cuba, Venezuela y otros países.

Casualmente, ambos están en la Liga Americana y, en ocasiones, han tenido que definir el pase a discutir la Serie Mundial y, se pueden imaginar que mi corazón ha estado dividido.

Pero, hoy no quiero hablar de eso. Más bien, quiero centrarme en la realidad de estos dos equipos que, contrario a lo que podía pensar, atraviesan una situación diferente en sus resultados.

Inicio de la MLB

Cuando inició la temporada regular muchos, entre los que me cuento daban a los Yankees entre los equipos favoritos de su división, a pesar de la incógnita de su cuerpo de lanzadores que se agravó con la lesión de su estelar Gerrit Cole.

Los Astros en la cima del cielo

Los Siderales, liderados por José Altuve han demostrado que en el deporte los hombres valen más que los nombres y, a base de buen juego, bateo oportuno y, sobre todo, buena labor de su bullpen han logrado alcanzar 7 victorias en sus últimas 10 apariciones.

Los Astros es uno de los equipos con más victorias de toda la liga y, uno de los 9 equipos con 40 victorias o más. De hecho, en la Liga Americana solo los Tigres de Detroit tienen más victorias (47) y, están empatados en victorias con los Yankees, algo que a día de hoy pocos pronosticaron.

Un comentario final

Todavía queda mucho camino por andar y juegos por realizar, pero lo cierto es que cada victoria cuenta en las aspiraciones finales de llegar a la postemporada.

Pero, lo más importante es que una victoria puede significar estar entre los comodines, quedar fuera de seguir luchando o ganar y pasar directo a los play off.

Eso lo saben estos equipos y tratarán de cambiar la dinámica perdedora como los Yankees y mantener o superar la actuación ganadora como los Astros de Houston.
