En esta publicación, quiero referirme a dos actuaciones de equipos cubanos en eventos internacionales que tuvieron al béisbol y al fútbol como protagonistas. En uno de ellos, se alcanzó uno de los objetivos propuestos, mientras que, en el otro, no se logró avanzar, pero, a pesar de ello, el resultado sembró una semilla de esperanzas en el futuro del fútbol cubano.

En esta publicación abordaré mis criterios, en torno a la actuación de Cuba en el pre mundial de béisbol de la categoría sub-23 y en el campeonato mundial sub-20 de fútbol.

Esta fue una de las noticias positivas del deporte cubano que durante este fin de semana tuvieron el final de sus presentaciones.

En este evento, Cuba no logró discutir el título, pero, alcanzó la medalla de bronce, luego de superar a México en un peleado partido que terminó 5 carreras por cuatro. De esta manera, no solo subieron al podio de premiaciones, sino que se llevaron uno de los tres boletos puestos en disputa.

El hecho “negativo” lo protagonizó el equipo de fútbol que participó en el campeonato mundial de la categoría sub-20 años.

Pero, seamos honestos: Cuba terminó en el lugar de su grupo que le daban los especialistas porque Argentina, Italia y Australia están por arriba de nuestra selección nacional. Es más, de los 24 equipos presentes en el campeonato mundial, el equipo cubano ocupó el número 23, en cuanto al valor de su plantilla.

Tal vez, el histórico empate frente a Italia nos hizo lanzar campanas al vuelo y pensar en una posible clasificación a octavos de final que de conseguirse sería histórico, pero, pienso que nos haría más mal que bien porque comenzaríamos a pensar que estábamos bien y entre las mejores selecciones del mundo, algo que, en realidad, no es así.
