Today is Tuesday the 13th and for many people in Spain and Latin America this is a day of bad luck, the equivalent of what Friday the 13th represents in Anglo-Saxon culture.
For lovers of the superstitious, on Tuesday the 13th you should not travel, get married or agree to any deal or business deal. In fact, for the most extreme, it is a day on which one should avoid even leaving the house.
The origin of this superstition and the supposed bad luck of Tuesday the 13th comes from antiquity. On the one hand, the word Tuesday has its origin in Mars, symbol among the Greeks and Romans of the planet of violence and destruction. Mars was also considered the god of war and it was on a Tuesday that the fall of Constantinople, today's Istanbul, took place, in which the Muslims defeated the Christians.
On the other hand, the 13th also has a negative symbolism: at Christ's last supper before his crucifixion there were 13 attendees, the twelve apostles and Judas the traitor as element number 13. In chapter 13 of the book of Revelation the figure of the antichrist appears for the first time and also in the Jewish tradition there are 13 evil spirits.
If we search historical events, traditions and legends we will find numerous references to negative connotations associated with both the number 13 and Tuesday so if we combine them we have a particularly dangerous and malevolent day.
