War Anniversary- My Actifit Report Card: February 28 2023
On 28 February 1983, "War", the third album by the band U2, was released. It was the album that brought the band to worldwide fame, although it was not the most famous album of their career.
"War" is a mixture of rock and post-punk with a very critical social and political theme in which the band reflects their concern and commitment to the world situation of the moment. For many it is one of the best works of their career.
"War" begins with the song "Sunday Bloody Sunday", which deals with the armed conflict in Northern Ireland and the 1972 event that led to the massacre of unarmed civilians during a protest. The song became an anthem against violence and oppression.
The song, "New Year's Day", became U2's first international hit and one of their signature songs throughout their career. The song is about the martial law imposed in Poland during the 1980s and was also an anthem for the pro-democracy movements and collectives in Europe during that time.
"War" is a very good album, very influential in rock music and in U2's musical career.
