In the south of the island of La Palma are the salt flats of Fuencaliente, a natural area of great beauty that has been declared a protected natural space.
En estas salinas se obtiene sal marina de una gran calidad debido en parte a la riqueza del suelo volcánico marino y al mismo tiempo a que los métodos utilizados para obtener la sal siguen siendo tradicionales y no han variado desde hace 60 años. En su entorno habitan una gran cantidad de aves y especies marinas de gran interés biológico.
These salt mines produce high quality sea salt, partly due to the richness of the volcanic marine soil, but also because the methods used to obtain the salt are still traditional and have not changed for the last 60 years. The area is home to a large number of birds and marine species of great biological interest.
