Classic Baseball Game Bases Loaded Arrives on Steam and GoG.com

Anyone that owned a Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) back in the day probably had at least a couple of friends that had one of the Bases Loaded games. I was the friend that had Bases Loaded II, another friend had 3 but none of my friends had IV or Super Bases Loaded on the Super Nintendo. I guess we just outgrew video game sports by that time. If you are wanting to relive the fun of the original Bases Loaded or Super Bases Loaded then you are in for a treat as they are available in one pack on GoG.com and Steam.

One of the Few Sports Games That Ages Well

Maybe it is the lack of licenses for either teams or players, maybe it is just solid gameplay, but Bases Loaded seems to have aged quite well. I have not played this version available on Steam and GoG but have played it via emulation over the years and it feels decent. It is not competition for modern releases but for fans wanting an 8-Bit baseball game, you can certainly do worse than Bases Loaded.

I would have loved for this set to have included a few more, at least the second Bases Loaded, of the NES releases but beggars cannot be choosy, right?

Slight Improvements Promised

The store pages mention there being an in-game manual and Retro CRT mode for that improved nostalgic feeling. The press release mentions leader boards for both games being added to this collection as well.

As far as I know, there are no graphical updates for either game. The actual games are as close to the originals as you can get without having to blow into a cartridge.

That can be good or bad depending on what you want out of a collection like this.

This game reminded me a lot of Baseball Stars 2. I don't know if you know it.
Anyway, I enjoy retro games.
Regards.

Oh yeah, I remember the Baseball Stars games. SNK had a knack with baseball. The Neo Geo games were much better than the NES versions released (though it was still fun). I was a huge fan of Neo Geo in arcades because they were affordable for arcade owners they were everywhere including gas stations.

I totally agree. There are many Neo Geo games that were very good. Undoubtedly, an excellent console.
