A Statement Made

Football is indeed a beautiful game . It is a game full of surprises and upsets . It can also be cruel and unpredictable. No one gave Arsenal a chance against champions League defending champions, Real Madrid in yesterday's quarter final first leg at the Emirates Stadium. Even some Arsenal fans were quite doubtful of the boys getting a win against the Les blancos that's filled with an array of star studded players like Mbappe , Vinicius , Bellingham and co .

Last night's match at the Emirates will always be a memorable one for many Arsenal fans all over the world. Hammering Real Madrid by three goals to nil is surely one hell of a memory that will linger on for a very long time.

The Gunners started the match with an attacking display. Thomas Partey's header early in the first half almost resulted in a goal but a block by his own teammate, Saliba made that effort futile. Arsenal no doubt had perfect control of the match as Thibauit Courtois made a lot of pretty decent saves to stop the Gunners from breaking the deadlock in the first half.

After a well-balanced, goalless first half in the pair's Champions League quarter-final first leg, Bukayo Saka won a free-kick almost 30 yards from goal shortly before the hour mark. Declan Rice bent a sumptuous effort around Madrid's grey shirts to break the deadlock with the first direct free-kick of his professional career.

The opening goal rocked the stadium at the perfect time. Just twelve minutes later, Rice stepped up and delivered another outstanding goal from a free kick. Mikel Merino, the makeshift striker, added a third five minutes later.

For most Arsenal fans Perhaps this might be the best moment as an Arsenal fan since the invincible. Although Arsenal seems to somehow have their way with Real Madrid. During the 05/06 CL season Arsenal went past Madrid at this same quarter final stage . One just wonder if this is about to be a dejavu.

With the Gunners having a 3 goal lead going into the second leg at the Bernabeu in Spain , it will be interesting to see how Real Madrid turns the 3goal deficit around.
