The origins of football...

While showering today, I suddenly felt the urge to read more about the origins of my favorite sport, football. How did it all start? Unfortunately, I didn't find an answer as romantic and awesome as I had hoped for, but at least I learned a couple of things.

The origins of football...

Football actually dates back to early civilizations. There seem to have been various versions of it in China, Japan, Greece, and Rome. What they exactly did isn't known, but they used a combination of a ball and their feet to play around.

Football, the way we know it today, origins back to England in the 19th century. Just like you would expect, it had all sorts of rules and often included violence. This lead to the creation of the Football Association in 1863, which standardized the rules of the game. The sport quickly gained popularity and spread worldwide, and by the early 20th century, international competitions such as the World Cup were established.

Today, football is the most popular sport in the world, and it isn't a coincidence. It is a fantastic sport, don't you think? And maybe it isn't a coincidence either that the Premier League is the most popular football league worldwide?
