The Summer Olympics is just around the corner!

The European Championship finished 8 days ago and so did Copa America. Right now, the Gold Cup is running in Northern America... but not so many pay attention to that. However, in four days from now, it is time for the opening ceremony of the Summer Olympics, and that is going to draw attention from every country in the world as the athletes start to compete in Tokyo, Japan.

I have mixed feelings about the Summer Olympics

I am not much of a Summer Olympics guy, to be honest. But, I do know that when it is starting, I will keep the TV running in the background frequently, simply because I love to know what's going on, and then I will for sure bump into events, sports, and competitions that I will pay closer attention to.

The Summer Olympics is the biggest sports event on earth, but I guess COVID has managed to place it a bit in the background. The fact that it will only be local audience from Japan in the different venues will kind of destroy the atmosphere a bit, just like it did during the European Championship in football. I just loved reading commentaries from all across the world about how everyone loved to be at Puskas Stadium in Budapest because it was packed, and the players couldn't even hear the voices of one another. That is how things are supposed to be, but due to COVID, this has changed.

So, this entire pandemic has kind of ruined parts of the joy of sports... but I still believe the Summer Olympics will turn into a fantastic event.

What will I watch?

So I am not much of a Summer Olympics guy, but living in Hungary, I will for sure watching the swimming competitions, rowing, some fencing, water polo, and some more stuff, after all, those are the sports in which Hungary has great athletes capable of winning several gold medals.

That is why I hope you will find some athletes from your country as well for which you can cheer, because it makes it all the more fun.

Do I need to disturb my sleep?

This is always a problem when the Olympics take place in a different time zone than your own. I remember during the Winter Olympics in Nagano, I actually went through a couple of nights without sleep and I once went to school with 1 hour of sleep after watching competitions all through the night.

Based on my knowledge, there will be events in the middle of the night (Central European Time), but most of the finals and the gold medals will be handed out late morning (between 9.00-12.00), or something like that, meaning that I don't necessarily have to ruin my sleep in order to watch the finals of the different competitions.

What are you looking forward to during the Summer Olympics? Have you made a plan on what you are going to stream and where you are going to watch it? You can find out more about how you can watch the Summer Olympics online right here.
