Manchester United Secure Brentford Star Bryan Mbeumo in $88 Million Deal

Manchester United have boosted their attacking options with the signing of forward Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford in a deal worth up to $88 million, according to the club's announcement on Monday. The 25-year-old Cameroon international has signed a five-year contract with an option to extend for an additional year, marking a significant coup for United as they prepare for the upcoming Premier League season.

The transfer fee includes an initial payment of £65 million ($88 million), with an additional £6 million potentially due in performance-related add-ons, according to a club source. Mbeumo’s move comes after a standout 2024-25 season with Brentford, where he scored 20 goals in the Premier League, placing him fourth among the league’s top scorers, behind only Mohamed Salah (29), Alexander Isak (23), and Erling Haaland (22). His contributions helped Brentford secure a respectable 10th-place finish.

Mbeumo, known for his versatility, thrived primarily on the right wing but also impressed as a centre-forward, starting every league match for Brentford last season. Since joining the London club from Ligue 2 side Troyes in 2019, he has made 242 appearances, scoring 70 goals and providing 51 assists across all competitions. His consistency and work rate have made him one of the Premier League’s most reliable attacking talents over the past three seasons.

Mbeumo has expressed his excitement about joining his boyhood club, saying,

“As soon as I knew there was a chance to join Manchester United, I had to take the opportunity to sign for the club of my dreams, the team whose shirt I wore growing up.”

The forward’s arrival is seen as a key part of manager Ruben Amorim’s plans to rebuild the squad following a challenging campaign.

Manchester United are set to embark on a pre-season tour in the United States, where Mbeumo will join his new teammates for matches against West Ham United in New Jersey on July 26, Bournemouth in Chicago on July 30, and Everton in Atlanta on August 3. The signing is expected to provide a significant boost as United aim to challenge for major honors in the upcoming season.

Brentford, while reluctant to lose their star player, will benefit from a club-record sale, surpassing the £40 million received for Ivan Toney’s transfer to Al-Ahli in 2024. The funds are likely to aid their efforts to strengthen the squad, with interest already reported in other attacking targets.

Let's see what the Reds would make out in the coming season with their recent buys.
