Sporting Memories: A local inter-family Football tournament in Nigeria

In the meantime, I'm still searching for my "in-the-pitch" picture I shot 15 years ago and would gladly share the experience in later days. In this post, I want to share a memory of my sports involvement as an official on the 5th of January, 2020. Yeah, that's pretty 10 months ago.

I was invited to join a friend who was a representative of his company to officiate the finals of an inter-community football tournament in Uruan, one of the Local Government Areas in Southern Nigeria. That was the first time I had to perform such functions. On reaching, I turned a photographer and seized the opportunity to market Steem then.

The match kicked off at exactly 4: 30 pm. The match is between Ikot Ekang and Ikot Eman families, one of the teams being defending champion of the yearly tournament. The match was co-officiated by the councilor representing the parliament in the local Council.

One beautiful memory in the match was seeing this female referee. I also had a n handshake with her. Football to me seems to be a no-go area for women especially when I understand how tackling could be and football-related injuries. I appreciate those who are strong enough to make a career in sports. I celebrate this woman as well as others who are into sports and are doing their best.

The game started and the tempo was high throughout the 90 minutes of play. The defending champion, Ikot Ekang played so hard to sustain their championship title but Ikot Eman won't let that be.

One of my favourite picks for the match was Abraham, with sporting jersey #10 scored the two goals in favour of Ikot Enam family. The first goal was through a penalty kick.

The match ended 2:1 in favour of Ikot Enam who emerged as a fresh champion for the 2020 edition of the football tournament. The sponsors of the match presented the cups to the winner of the tournament as well as the first runner up.

First, the prize was to the runner up - Ikot Ekang team the defending champion who received the smaller cup courtesy of Mothercat Nigeria LTD, Uyo branch.

It was an aura of jubilation as the winners of the 2019 tournament - Ikot Enam family team received the grand prize of NGN 50,000 with the golden giant cup presented to the team captain by the representative of the Honorable chairman of Uruan Local government area.

The grand price NGN 50,000 is equivalent to US $110, that's about 758 HIVE in today's exchange rate. If the grand prize of the tournament were to bee sponsored by the @Sportstalksocial community, then, that would amount to 6.6 million SPORTS tokens.

I'm looking forward to a time in the future I would officiate that tournament and other local tournaments with SPORT STALK SOCIAL branded gears and sitting under a SPORT STALK SOCIAL branded tent and giving out the SPORT STALK SOCIAL branded cup to the winning team.

Would be great to get to the point that everyone knows about sports tokens and can be used for prizes. Will take time.
