RE: If fruit & veg are healthy... EXPLAIN THIS

You are viewing a single comment's thread:

Many plants depend on animals to disperse their seeds. Some plants have burrs, stickers, and etc. that stick to animal fur and feathers and that gets animals to lug their seeds to someplace the plant couldn't get them. Other plants make delicious fruit, so animals will eat the fruit and the seeds inside them, and then deposit the seeds with a generous helping of fertilizer to help them get started. Most delicious fruit are not just very tasty, but also very nutritious. Fruits with special toxins, like Castor beans, are specialized for one particular creature to disperse them. Pumpkins used to be toxically bitter - except to Mastodons, and Mastodons and Pumpkins had a special relationship.

Humans bred the bitter Pumpkin into the sweet fruit we know today before the extinction of the Mastodon over 12kya.

Thanks!

Very interesting. I thought Mastodon was a social media platform.

Yes, apparently the fruits of today did not exist in these super sweet form when we left the caves.

The debate goes on.

I thought Mastodon was a social media platform.

It is. It is named for the extinct genus of elephants.

Many, many fruits with superb nutritional qualities have long predated agriculture. We didn't create nutritious fruit, but have enabled some fruit to be agriculturally profitable. Because of hierarchical corporate institutions' profit seeking, the species Big Ag grows are those that best create ROI - and this, more than any other reason - is why so much of what veg we eat isn't particularly nutritious. If corporations can profit by feeding us poison, that's what corporations will grow. Plants have a completely different natural selection purpose, and nature will cause a plant that poisons it's seed dispersal species to decline in population as a result. Corporations that kill a bunch of customers can just invest in a different business opportunity.

Great insight. Do these feuits and veg with good things, also carry toxins and sugar ?

And the sugar, apart from other known harms, apparently ferments into alcohol.

Allegedly, we're all alcoholics !!!

There are a lot of abandoned homesteads hereabouts, and homesteaders back in the day grew a lot of apples. Today those apples fall in the woods and ferment on the ground, where bears and other animals eat them, sometimes getting quite drunk. It's not only us that use alcohol.

So now the old Homesteaders are eating Grain fed chickens and anti-biotic laced beef.

Where do we go from here ?
