We wait is finally over, after over five months of non league football action in Nigeria for reasons best known to the country administrators, Nigeria Professional Football League 2019/2020 season finally kicked off across different venues. Eight matches were played out of the ten matches expected for the first week. Two matches involving Enyimba International of Aba and Enugu Rangers were postponed because the two clubs were involved in the CAF competition. As a matter of fact, all the eight matches played were so important and worthy even though one can not be too quick to start comparing the teams at this stage of the season. However, the league has improved over the years now as teams now can travel to other venue and comfortably win or pick a point provided the team plays well.

In some of the matches played today, FC Ifeanyi Ubah were too strong for the visitors Adamawa United as the host won by a lone goal to start the new season on a high. One of the most anticipating match of the day was the match between Heartland and MFM FC, this match was special because the new coach Heartland was until now the coach of MFM FC. As matter of fact the coach had a spell of seven season with the Lagos based MFM FC. Playing against the team he used to coached in the past, his new boys suffered a 0-1 lost at home to MFM FC.

In the other matches played, Kano Pillars of Kano could break the defense of highly resolute boys from Portharcourt, as the match ended goalless. Delta Force and Akwa Starlet also ended their game 1-1 apiece as the two new comers share the point to begin a new life in Nigeria Professional Football League. Former league champions Plateau United defeated another former champions Lobi Stars by 3 goals to 1 to move to the top of the table while Wikki Tourist, Abia Warriors also had wins over Jigawa Golden Stars and Katsina United respectively.
