It wasn't until a couple of years ago, that I was even aware Monarch butterflies migrated. I received a migration chart in some wildlife mailings that I get.
I think it's so cool to be able to see them as they come and go with the seasons! Good job with your steps for the day! Take care!

You always have so many wonderful photos of your garden. Very nice.
Every now and again I pass by articles saying how Monarch numbers are dwindling due to many things—global warming, pesticides, etc, all the usual suspects. Have you noticed fewer coming into your garden the past few years?
No, we are still seeing about the same number of Monarchs coming thru...some year more than others. The real problem is their winter habitat in Mexico, where some of the forests have had trees cut down. They are trying to protect that now. People are planting more milkweed - the host plant for Monarchs to make up for the milkweed that farmers got rid of in their properties along the flyzone for Monarchs. There are lots of flowers planted throughout the Texas flyzone by us butterfly enthusiast that help them make it to Mexico! I predict they will continue to thrive! :)
