Playing the main lines in chess represents an extremely hard challenge because although the most theoretical variations can be considered as "correct" you have to take in a lot of information and concrete cases, the problem comes when in a specific variation we fail the "unique" continuation, something that in side lines is not so serious. But the problem increases when the opening/defense used has an ultra aggressive spirit as in the case of the dragon.
The defense of the dragon is one of the most blunt weapons that the player of black pieces has at his disposal, however the fact that white can get a relentless initiative in the king's wing makes the dragon itself a double-edged sword.
In this game that I bring you today I played against a 2176 rated opponent in lichess which means that this player has a good level of play, in fact my rating this time is lower than 2154 lol. Even so, the game ended in about 22 moves, not because my opponent played badly, but because he didn't know the critical position very well, which cost him the point because the resulting position was very hard.
After a somewhat unusual order of moves we arrived at the super well-known position of the Yugoslav attack of the dragon variation. One of the observations I make is the move 11...)a6, of course, I don't think this is a serious mistake far from it, however it seems to me to be a slow move and one that Black will regret later, one understands the idea of a6 "attacking with b5 on the queenside" where my king is located, this seems more effective in the Najdorf variation in which Black is better prepared. I like better the continuation that has become fashionable in recent years: 11...)Nxd4 followed by b5 and a5 a super theoretical line with brutal tactical complications that gives Black a quite dynamic game.

Jugar las lineas principales en el ajedrez representa un desafió sumamente extremo pues a pesar de las variantes más teóricas puedan ser consideradas como “correctas” hay que asimilar una gran cantidad de información y casos concretos, el problema viene cuando en una variante especifica fallamos la continuación “única”, cosa que en lineas secundarias no es tan grave. Pero el problema aumenta cuando la apertura/defensa empleada posee un carácter ultra agresivo como el caso del dragón.
La defensa del dragón es una de las armas más tajantes que el jugador de piezas negras tiene a su disposición , no obstante el hecho de que las blancas pueden hacerse con una iniciativa implacable en el ala de rey hace del propio dragón una espada de doble filo.
En esta partida que les traigo el día de hoy jugué contra un rival de 2176 de rating en lichess lo cual significa que este jugador tiene un buen nivel de juego, de hecho mi rating en esta oportunidad es inferior a 2154 lol. Aun así, la partida concluyó en unas 22 jugadas, no porque mi rival juegue mal, sino porque no conocía muy bien la posición critica, cosa que le costó el punto pues la posición resultante era muy delicada.
Tras un orden de jugadas un tanto inusual llegamos a la súper conocida posición del ataque yugoslavo de la defensa dragón. Una de las observaciones que hago es la jugada 11...)a6, por supuesto, no creo que esto sea un error grave ni mucho menos, sin embargo me parece que es un movimiento lento y que las negras lamentaran más adelante, se entiende la idea de a6 “atacar con b5 en el ala dama” donde se encuentra mi rey, esto parece más efectivo en la variante najdorf en la cual las negras están mejor preparadas. Me gusta más la continuación que se ha puesto de moda en los últimos años: 11...)Cxd4 seguido de b5 y a5 una linea súper teórica con complicaciones tácticas brutales que da a las negras un juego bastante dinámico.

Certainly, moves like a6, hxg4 and Nxg4 by Black added up to an unwanted structure. It was better for Black to contain the pressure on the kingside, instead of capturing 13...)hxg4 the alternative 13...)Ne5 looked more solid, of course White is still better but the road is not so easy now,14)gxh5 Nxh5 15)f4 Nc4 16)Bxc4 Rxc4 and the position is quite dynamic, although I still prefer White. After all the wise "Bobby" once said that the Yugoslav attack can be successfully employed by an amateur and cause great damage to an experienced master.
Pero pensemos en una mejor defensa para las negras...
Ciertamente, jugadas como a6, hxg4 y Cxg4 de las negras sumaron para que se quedaran con una estructura indeseada. Era mejor para las negras contener la presión en el flanco de rey, en vez de capturar 13...)hxg4 la alternativa 13...)Ce5 se veía más solida, por supuesto las blancas siguen mejor pero el camino no es tán fácil ahora,14)gxh5 Cxh5 15)f4 Cc4 16)Axc4 Txc4 y la posición es bastante dinámica, aunque sigo prefiriendo a las blancas. Después de todo el sabio “Bobby” alguna vez dijo que el ataque yugoslavo puede ser empleado de manera exitosa por un aficionado y causar grandes daños a un maestro experimentado.
