For those of you around the world that call the "beautiful game" Soccer, can i just take this opportunity to say - Youre wrong! Its called Football.....

Now with The Super Bowl LVI having just finished, and you Yanks calling that football, please take the time to educate yourself and know the rest of the world call that "american football". **FOOT-ball is played with your foot, hence the name football. Repeat after me - FOOT, BALL. FOOT, BALL. FOOTBALL!!

In 2022, The FA Cup marks the 150th anniversary of its inaugural Final, which took place between Wanderers FC and the Royal Engineers on 16 March 1872. To mark this special milestone for world football’s longest-running knockout competition, we have struck the first UK coin celebrating The FA Cup.
As a cherished favourite amongst fans of the beautiful game, the competition’s unique knockout structure offers grassroots clubs the opportunity to meet giants from the upper echelons of the football pyramid. No matter how slim the chances, The FA Cup sprinkles a magical feeling over each ground it passes through. There is no denying the hope of something extraordinary unfolding over each 90-minute game and potentially beyond. Underdogs slay giants, unknowns become global heroes overnight and one moment of magic can be the difference between agonising disappointment and undeniable euphoria. It is a competition steeped in sporting history and continues to add unforgettable moments to the rich tapestry of footballing folklore.

Whilst this coin is available in precious and non-precious metals, its always the silver(925) versions that catch my eye. This limited edition silver proof, £2 coin has a mintage ofnjust 3,750 coins. It does come with a pretty hefty premium (the price over its precious metals content), but ticking all the boxes of a future collectors coin, this one is definitely a winner in my eyes:

  • precious metal ✔
  • nice looking design ✔
  • limited, and low, mintage numbers ✔
  • appeals to more than just coin collectors- sporting memorabilia ✔

So whats your thoughts? Would you pay £72.50 ($100) for 12g of 92.5% silver....? Well, it turns out a lot of people already have, as thos coin is now sold out at the ROYAL MINT. Time will tell if this coin will be a smart investment, but with silver and golds prices on the move, the gap between spot and sale price closes every day. Peoples love of all things shiny isnt going anywhere anytime soon, and its a dead-cert that their love of FOOT-ball isnt going anywhere either.
