Sunshine, slush puppies and silverware: Another memorable rugby festival

Today was one of those perfect days that remind me why I love coaching so much — early mornings, glorious weather, and a day full of rugby with my son and our incredible little team. The festival was held in a small village just a short 30-minute drive away. Even though it was an early start, the buzz of excitement (and a strong coffee) made it more than bearable. Besides, when the forecast promises blue skies and sunshine, you know you’re in for a special day.
We faced five tough games today. None of them were easy, and each team brought their A-game. But our kids rose to the challenge, showing grit, heart, and skills that made us all incredibly proud. Against all odds, we finished the day undefeated — a clean sweep! It wasn’t the coaching setup that earned those victories (though I’ll take a tiny bit of credit for keeping spirits high); it was purely down to the kids' hard work, determination, and sheer love for the game.

With the sun blazing down, sunscreen became our best friend, and keeping everyone hydrated was a top priority. Of course, it wouldn’t be a proper rugby festival without plenty of ice cream breaks and more gold-coloured slush puppies than I could count. After the way the kids performed today, there was no way I could deny them their well-earned treats. They had given it their all out on the pitch — it was only right they enjoyed every sugary, icy reward!

Days like this are more than just tournaments — they’re memories being made. Watching my son play with such passion, seeing the smiles on all the kids' faces, and feeling the camaraderie between the parents and coaches — it’s a feeling that’s hard to beat.

Another medal, another undefeated festival, but most importantly, another chapter in an incredible journey we’re all lucky to share.
