The best for his career [ESP-ENG]

Jose Aldo was facing a golden opportunity, winning against Merab Dvalishvili, he would surely get the chance to fight for the title, his greatest wish and then retire and leave behind his huge MMA career. For many the featherweight goat, a man who was champion and was able to defend the title for 9 consecutive times. At 35 years of age, being able to challenge the champion for the title again would be more than a reward for a legend, it would also be a great joy for all UFC fans and it seems that dream has come crashing down.

Merab Dvalishvili is a very strong opponent, Jose Aldo was not the favorite to win and ended up losing the fight at the UFC278 event. Merab says that Aldo told him that this was his last fight and that he intends to retire from mixed martial arts. I see a lot of sense in that decision, Aldo was fighting to get back to the top, unfortunately he has not been able to do it and he is far from being eligible for a title fight. Can Jose Aldo still compete? I really think so, but in my opinion, it's not the best thing for his career.

El titulo quedo lejos - The title was far away

ENGLISH

A lot of illusion generated Jose Aldo, to see him in the number 3 position of the ranking, without a doubt it was a great milestone, at this time there was no former champion of his age in the top of the top, simply the legend of Jose Aldo that still remained and although he suffered great defeats, he was able to reverse that situation and began to win in a great resurgence of his brand new career. The bantamweight category, can be considered the most competitive or at least the second best in the company, so everything Jose Aldo was doing, was brilliant and it is not easy to get to the top of the division.

All the top 5 was paired with a fight, so the options for Jose Aldo, were being very big, because his name weighs a lot and was in the top 3 of the division. Winning against Merab, he was directly going to face the champion and we all wanted to see that. He couldn't get the win, he dropped back to #6 in the rankings and it's all a long way off. He would have to have a streak of at least 3 consecutive victories and fighting against the top 5 of the category. It is really very difficult for him to beat them, this division is very tough and there is a lot of level that Jose Aldo could not beat.

The motivation that brought the Brazilian, had to have fallen after this defeat, thinking well the situation, it is not worth risking so much, looking for more defeat in his record, would not be the best and would tarnish a little his legendary status. We must applaud what he was able to achieve, nobody expected a Jose Aldo, being top 3 in the bantamweight category, many took him for old and that he no longer had options for glory, but they were wrong and he was able to show why he is one of the best fighters that the UFC has ever had in history.

ENGLISH

Many big name fighters, when they reach the stage of their decline, begin to make meters for prospects, fighters who are responsible for measuring the young people who come up and often end up receiving great damage. MMA does not forgive anyone, time takes its toll, reaching an advanced age is a lot of risk, especially if you have to face a young fighter with great hunger for glory and who wants to have in his record a victory against someone important. Personally it hurts me to see legends like this, that's why I consider that retirement should be early and in this case for Jose Aldo is a good time.

After a huge winning streak, being a dominant champion and defending the title so many times, it wouldn't be fair for Jose Aldo to have to face fighters that are a threat, fill his record with many unnecessary defeats and become a measuring stick for the UFC. In my head it doesn't make sense, so if this was Jose Aldo's last fight, I'm glad for the decision, even if it's sad not to see him again, for me it would be the right and logical thing to do to take care of his whole career.

He is 35 years old, many fans may comment, he still has time to continue, champions are forged after the age of 30, but Jose Aldo is a different man, he could be champion very young and he faced the best for many years in a row. The high competition that the Brazilian faced, is not compared to many other fighters, that's why Aldo's career is shortened, it has not been an easy road, he was always in the elite and MMA is very hard. He is not finished, against Merab he looked good, he can keep winning against regular fighters, but that does not add anything to his career, the important thing was to get to the title and that can not get it again at this point, so I see retirement as perfect.

ENGLISH

Jose Aldo enters my list of top 5 in history, the career that the Brazilian has had is undoubtedly incredible, few have been able to dominate the way he could do it, he constantly finished his opponents and gave the feeling that he was invincible. He was never labeled as boring, nobody complained watching a performance of Jose Aldo, because he was always entertaining, he hit a lot with his legs, hurt his opponents and was not afraid to go to the front to finish the fight.

The most impressive thing has been his rebirth, he lost against Conor Mcgregor in his best level, when Jose Aldo was the best, nobody gave Mcgregor winning that fight and he lost in front of his public in Brazil in a matter of nothing. To fall totally KO in less than 1 minute, being the big favorite, psychologically must be terrible, few fighters would have recovered from that moment, however Jose Aldo in his next fight wins against Frankie Edgar, a former champion who was at a great level and Jose Aldo managed to beat him.

The ability to bounce back is brilliant, also remember the 2 defeats against Max Holloway, each by TKO and also lost in the same way against Petr Yan. Anyone would have retired before, it is not easy, to be in the top of the world and then be defeated with a lot of punishment. But Jose Aldo stayed in the company, won several consecutive fights and returned to the top 3 of the division, that tells us how majestic Aldo is and the great level he has as a fighter. I like to mention the falls, because it's hard to get up from that and Jose Aldo managed to do it many times and looking great.

At 24 years old Jose Aldo was champion of the company, totally unbelievable, a sport where experience is paramount and he was able to be dominant at a young age. He has nothing more to prove, for the moment he will be the best fighter the featherweight category has ever seen and for me one of the best 5 fighters the UFC has ever had. His retirement has not been confirmed yet, we have yet to hear his statements, but I don't think Merab has told lies with what he said, taking into account that, it seems to me the right decision, leaving the octagon early is the healthiest thing for his body and to maintain his legacy.
