Biggest NBA Draft Busts of All Time (Part 2)

G'day tribe. Yesterday I posted the first part of the biggest NBA draft busts of all time. Check it out here. Today I present part two.

6. Kwame Brown

The Wizards all time draft bust Kwame Brown was selected straight out of high school with the first pick of the 2001 draft. He was supposed to be the generational talent that would save Washington.

Instead the nearly 7-foot beast never lived up to expectations with the Wizards passing up on Tyson Chandler and Pau Gasol in the draft. Brown had off-court issues too, caught driving while intoxicated in 2003 and again in 2007 for disorderly conduct and interfering with a law enforcement officer.

13 years ago today, the Lakers traded Kwame Brown, Javaris Crittenton, Aaron McKie, draft rights to Marc Gasol & 2 future draft picks for Pau Gasol.

5. Greg Oden

Greg Oden is one of the biggest NBA draft busts of all time. It's hard to blame Portland as he was the clear top prospect in a draft that included Kevin Durant. Unfortunately for the Trail Blazers we all know how Durant's career panned out.

Oden missed his rookie season due to a knee injury. He continued to suffer from chronic knee issues having gone three seasons without playing a game. After only three seasons across seven years he played in only 105 NBA games averaging 19 minutes a game.

4. Hasheem Thabeet

Hasheem Thabeet was a 7-foot-3 center with an extremely accurate shot in college. The Grizzlies drafted him with the second pick of the 2009 draft ahead of James Harden, Stephen Curry and DeMar DeRozan. When you re-run his college tapes however, he didn't have much skill and he turned out to be one of the biggest NBA draft busts of all time.

The Grizzlies drafted a positional need and reached for Thabeet with the second pick. As a rookie he averaged 13 minutes a game and averaged just 3.1 points. His career lasted just five years in the NBA and he averaged 2.2 points per game.

Always interesting to look back at the “What-if’s” of NBA Drafts

Hasheem Thabeet goes 2nd overall to Memphis in 2009 Draft. During final year at UConn, Thabeet went on to average: • 13.6 PTS, 10.8 REB, and 4.2 BLK pic.twitter.com/i3a1BaBg4b — Backcourt Violation (@backcourtv) June 23, 2020
